International Technology Transfer Center Network

International Technology Transfer Center Network ITTCs currently exist in Vietnam, Ukraine, South Africa, Peru, Indonesia, and Nigeria, with more countries being added in the near future.

The International Technology Transfer Center (ITTC) Network develops and strengthens the workforce, organizations and systems that provide substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery support services. Based in universities and research centers, ITTCs utilize a variety of strategies to accelerate the implementation of scientifically-based and culturally appropriate practices.

Recent funding cuts to international programs have led to significant disruptions—reducing services, limiting resources, and deepening inequities, especially for lower-income patients.

Ashley C. Helle, Ph.D., is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (MO), and Director for Engagement at the Missouri Center for Addiction Research and Engagement (MO-CARE).

Dr. Helle’s research uses dissemination and implementation (D&I) science to improve how evidence-based substance use prevention and treatment programs are adopted and sustained. Her work centers on collaboration with community stakeholders—those on the front lines delivering prevention and treatment across the lifespan.

Antonio Vidal Infer is currently an associate Professor of the School of Medicine at the University of Valencia. He is a professor of Epidemiology in the master’s degree program of Drug Addiction: Research, Treatment and Associated Pathologies (University of Valencia). He has a master’s degree in clinical psychology a PhD in psychology and specialization in qualitative research. He was trained at Northern Arizona University in Rapid Assessment Rapid Evaluation with anthropologist Robert T. Trotter II. Dr. Vidal has worked in different clinical settings (hospitals, private practice) conducting psychotherapy applied to addictions and neuromodulation (TDCS). He has worked as a prevention officer in the Fundación de Ayuda contra la Drogadicción (http://www.fad.es).
He has participated as a researcher in the GENACIS project (“Gender, Alcohol, and Culture: An International Study”), a collaborative international project affiliated with the Kettil Bruun Society for Social and Epidemiological Research on Alcohol. Dr Vidal has also a long trajectory in training. He is a trainer of the TREATNET initiative of the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drug and Crime). He is also a trainer of the SBIRT program (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) contributing to the training of more than five hundred socio-health professionals (mainly primary care personnel) throughout the country (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Murcia, Alicante, Castellon, Granada, Jaén, Almería, Santiago de Compostela and Benidorm). As a result of this training, the Matrix manuals (available from http://www.matrix.e-drogas.es/) for the treatment of drug addictions aimed at therapists, users and family members were created. Since their publication in 2013 by the Government of the Region of Murcia, these manuals have served to train professionals and have been used in therapeutic practice. Moreover, he is also an evaluator of specific actions of the Spanish National Drug Plan. He has also experience in research on Open Science practices, including research data sharing.

Antonio Vidal Infer es actualmente profesor titular de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Valencia. Es profesor de Epidemiología en el Máster en Drogodependencias: Investigación, Tratamiento y Patologías Asociadas de la Universidad de Valencia. Tiene un doctorado en Psicología y es especialista en investigación cualitativa, formado en la Northern Arizona University en Rapid Assessment Rapid Evaluation con el antropólogo Robert T. Meet one of the newest members of our ITTC Network!

Dr Siddharth Sarkar is the Associate Director of ITTC India. Dr. Sarkar is an Additional Professor at the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He has been working in the field of addiction psychiatry and has presented nationally and internationally. He has won several awards including the Young Psychiatrist Award of the Indian Psychiatric Society. His interests include dual diagnosis and family-related aspects of substance use disorders. He has received funded projects. He has served in the editorial board of several journals in the field of psychiatry.
