This week’s featured psychologist is Dr. James Bayton.

Dr. Bayton is known for his work on the self-concept of Black people. He also conducted research on consumer psychology and worked closely with companies such as IMB, Chrysler, Proctor & Gamble and the US Dept of Health Education and Welfare.

Dr. Bayton also worked with the NAACP on cases of school desegregation and job discrimination. He played an important role in desegregation cases in Arlington and Roanoke.

Dr. Bayton had a lasting impact in the field of argriculture and his community where he advocated for desegregation.

This week’s featured psychologist is Dr. Joy Harden Bradford ( )

Dr. Joy is a licensed psychologist, author, media contributor and podcast host of Therapy for Black Girls (Therapy for Black Girls ®️] )

Her work focuses on making mental health topics more accessible for Black women and she often uses pop culture topics to illustrate psychological concepts.

Dr. Joy is working diligently to shed light on mental wellness and uses her podcast to shed light on mental health for Black women.

Today’s featured psychologist is Dr. Ruth Howard!

Dr. Howard became the first African-American woman to receive a PhD in psychology. she studied the developmental history of 229 sets of triplets and worked in a community hospital for delinquent girls.

She studied with influential psychologists such as Dr. Havinghurst, Dr. Carl Rogers, Dr. Helen Robinson and many more.

Her work contributed to the success of women psychologists and the development of psychologists.

Today’s featured psychologist is Dr. Herman George Canady. He was a clinical and social psychologist who is well known for his thesis on “The Effects of Rapport on IQ: A Study in Racial Psychology.

Dr. Canada’s work paved the way for the acceptance of black psychologists in universities and workforces.

Today’s featured psychologist is Dr. Carolyn Robertson Payton.

Dr. Payton was a highly decorated and instrumental psychologist. She was the first female and African American director of the Peace Corps.

During her time as the Director of Howard University Counseling Services, she established a training and supervision component which we now know as clinical practicum for mental health graduate students. She was an exemplary role model for professional black women and provided counseling services for students and community members.

Today, Dr. Payton is remembered as a foremother of individuals who pushed for women’s leadership within APA and psychology.

Good afternoon everyone!

Dr. Guerda Nicolas is today’s featured psychologist. In many ways, Dr. Nicolas has contributed to the improvement of mental health care systems and policy in Haiti. Additionally, she is instrumental in providing access to mental health care services for marginalized groups.

Her research strongly reflects her interests such as the integration of race and culture and wellbeing for ethnically diverse and immigrant communities.

Her work current includes promoting academic excellence in ethnically diverse groups, identity development in Black youth and empowering ethnically diverse parents to be effective parents.

Today’s featured psychologist is Dr. Joseph L. White. He is known as the Godfather of Black Psychology!

He was instrumental in the creation of the Educational Opportunity Program, he contributed to the success of many students of color and he is one of the founders of the Association of Black Psychologists.

His work has paved the way for many successful psychologists of color!!

Good morning 🌞 beautiful people. Today's featured psychologist, who is emaciating the field, is the highly decorated Dr. Nancy Boyd-Franklin. One of her many highlighted accomplishments includes her presentation at the first White House AIDS conference, that was hosted during former president Bill Clinton's term. She also has an extensive lists of awards and accolades, in addition to an honorary doctorates from the Phillips Graduate Institute. Many thanks to Dr. Nancy Boyd-Franklin for paving the way.
