“When we make ourselves God, no one in the world is safe in our presence.” — Joan Chittister

We spend so much of our lives striving for independence, working to build a life where we no longer have to rely on others. But this desire to be self-sufficient can pull us further from the life we long for and the love God offers. What if the path to a fuller life begins not with proving ourselves, but with learning to receive God’s love like a child?

In our new teaching series, The Path to Humility, we’re exploring the virtues that shape us into everyday saints. We begin with humility and its corresponding vice, pride, and the invitation to rediscover what it means to become like a child.

Last Sunday we started a new teaching series called The Path of Humility.

Over the next couple of months, we’ll embark on the task of becoming everyday saints by studying the virtue, humility and its corresponding vice, pride.

“That’s the vision of the saint: an every day person, normal and ordinary, doing all they can to heal.” — Josh Nadeau

We often imagine saints as extraordinary people, but the vision we see in Scripture is much more ordinary. Saints are people who follow Jesus in the everyday places of their lives, allowing God to shape them and joining Him in the work of healing what is broken around them.

This Sunday, Pastor Alex shared our vision for the next five years: becoming a community of everyday saints.

“They were ordinary people who found the courage to follow Jesus wherever he might lead.”— Pastor Alex

It’s easy to look at the failures of Christianity and become cynical about the story being told. But what if ordinary people faithfully following Jesus could tell a better story?

This Sunday, Pastor Alex shared a vision for the next five years: Becoming a community of everyday saints. Together, we want to become people who are increasingly shaped by Jesus and join God in the healing of our world, one life at a time.

Join us at Midtown Church every Sunday at 10:30 AM. We gather weekly at the Delta Athenaeum: 900 E Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108 ⛪️

Each weekend, we come together around the things the Church has always gathered around: prayer, scripture, song, bread, and cup. In doing so, we learn what it means to live as citizens of His Kingdom.
Kids are always welcome in the Gathering.

Childcare is available for children under eight years old, and older kids are invited to join their families in the main gathering.

“The message of Paul and 1 Corinthians is this:
Be faithful.
Root yourself in the city.
Don’t flee or seclude yourself.
Don’t withdraw or abandon ship when the journey gets tough.
Don’t compromise even amongst cultural pressure. Instead, lean in.
Get in the mud with your neighbors.
Get dirty for the sake of the gospel.”—Pastor Cassie
