Focused on a Cure

Focused on a Cure We're focused on a cure for breast cancer. Will you join us? www.irresistibleportraits.com For the Sloop family, the only choice was to fight and beat it!

It all started when Renda’s sister, Rhonda Sloop, was diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2007. It was a shock for the whole family, considering there was no family history of cancer. Rhonda was going for a routine mammogram and hadn't noticed anything odd. The thoughts and emotions that come with cancer, put a family on a roller coaster ride. Cancer can make a person start living their life

a little differently. Rhonda’s strength has been amazing. Her story has inspired us to start this exhibit. We have been working with many breast cancer survivors, each of whom have a unique story. If their stories can help encourage, inspire, or educate one person about this disease it will make the journey worthwhile. We read each survivor’s story and tried to portray their journey and how breast cancer has “enriched” their lives. With our business, Irresistible Portraits, it just felt right to put a face with these stories and let our art speak for itself. Our sincere wish for this foundation, “Focused on a Cure,” will be to urge every woman to start self breast exams and mammograms early. Do not wait until the age of forty. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection saves lives. It saved Rhonda’s life and it may save your own. Throughout the past year, the Sloop family has kept Proverbs 24:32 in their hearts: “I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw.”

Back in late October, we had our 2022 Cancer Survivor exhibit reveal! It was amazing to hear the survivors give their testimonies and see their reactions to seeing their metals for the first time!
Now you can see for yourself. The exhibit is on display in the foyer in front of the Levin Cancer Center at Atrium Health Hospital in Concord. Stop by and see their inspiring stories in person!
They will be there for almost a month.

We are super excited for our 2022 Cancer survivor reveal this weekend! On Sunday we will unveil our new survivor metals. Our cancer survivors will see their portraits for the very first time. We would like to invite everyone to come out and see their beautiful works of art being showcased. The portraits are a combination of their portrait and their story being told together.
Check out Cayson Harter. He is an 11-year-old hero! Just last year he beat brain cancer. His mom told me before I met him that he was a fighter. He was always the brave one. I decided that since he was such a fighter, we would photograph inside the ropes (boxing ring). We met at Hobbs Mixed Martial Arts School. Thank you, Madison, for the use of your space.
The moment I met Cayson, I knew he was a brave soul. As he went through his 4 rounds of chemo and 20 rounds of radiation, he kept telling his mom "Everything will be ok Mom". And he was right. His last MRI scan was clean!!!! Such an awesome kid. Come out and meet this young man. You too will be impressed!
Reveal will be from 3-5pm at Homestead Baptist Church in Kannapolis.

We would like to introduce you to Edona Cress-Mesmer. She is a two-time cancer survivor! 11 years ago, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. 11 years cancer free. That is surely something to celebrate! However, back in 2021 she was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma at the age of 39.
The plan of action was surgery followed by 4 rounds of chemo and 21 rounds of radiation. For all you cancer survivors, you know that the treatments are brutal. On top of that, it was during Covid (hate that word) and her biggest supporter, her husband Alex could only walk her to the front door. How scary! But of course, being the amazing person that Alex is, he stayed right outside her window where she could see him the whole time. Of course, her story also includes a loyal furry friend, Willow! For every bad day and breakdown, Willow was there with kisses and cuddles!

Edonna has a message to everyone. PLEASE do self-exams and get your mammograms, it could save your life!!!!

Here is a cancer survivor that will surely inspire you with her cancer journey. Her name is Savanah Wright. She is one incredible lady. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 7 months. While there were no apparent side effects when she was a baby, the next 3 years involved surgery after surgery, numerous rounds of chemo, scan after scan and lots of tears. At the age of 3, she was in remission! However, as she grew into a teenager, they noticed a change in her walking and balance. Back pain was very strong. At the age of 14, she had back surgery that left her paralyzed.
Through it all, she married her high school sweetheart, had three beautiful children and has the most peaceful, positive attitude a person with her challenges could have.
She is an amazing human and we can't wait for you all to hear her story. 2022 Cancer Survivor Exhibit reveal will be Homestead Baptist Church - Kannapolis on October 30th!

Meet Jake! He is a 12-year stage 3 Lymphoma survivor. Jake's story is very inspirational. As Jake says "he is a man and stubborn about going to the doctor for anything". Jake has prayed that GOD would use him for his glory! We are designing his cancer survivor metal now for our 2022 Cancer Survivor exhibit. Can't wait to reveal his story in our exhibit October 30th!
