As members of the ʻOnipaʻa Coalition, WCO holds the honor of providing space for arts and creative expression for lāhui each year. We deeply mahalo the nearly 400 lāhui-members, the ʻOnipaʻa Coalition, kūpuna, Lāhui Block Prints, and all who stopped to share stories through their art. In these moments, we remember the pono leadership and legacy of our mōʻī wahine, Liliʻuokalani.
We are also incredibly grateful to the community support that resources spaces like ʻOnipaʻa and Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea. Mahalo e ka lāhui for always showing up with us.
Today, we stand in solidarity with our communities in distress, and look to the Queen’s powerful use of art and mele during the imprisonment.
As kānaka, we know that art belongs in every wā of our existence.
