This Best Friends Day, we're celebrating the pets and people who make life brighter. 🧡

The dog who greets you at the door like you hung the moon. The friend who drove you to the shelter the day you said "just looking." The cat who chose YOUR lap out of everyone's.

🧡 If you find kittens outside without their mom it's easy to assume they've been abandoned. But mama probably hasn't gone far. Nursing mother cats need way more food than most people realize, and she may be out searching for it.

Waiting and watching from a distance could save lives!

In April, MenHealing returned to the Sanctuary for their 6th group volunteer trip! 🧡

Their multi-generational group spent time digging up weeds, playing with goats, making peanut-butter-filled treats for Sanctuary dogs, and giving belly rubs to 300-pound pigs. From hard work to animal snuggles, they brought so much joy and compassion to the Sanctuary.

Jim shared, "I have been a volunteer with Best Friends since 2012. I am also a survivor of childhood sexual harm and am the Executive Director of MenHealing. We provide resources for adult men who have been victims of sexual harm. For the past six years, I have assembled a group of male survivors and their family members to join our staff for a two-day Service Project with Best Friends. Survivors of trauma offering our time to help abused and neglected animals is a profound and life-changing experience. We are honored for the opportunity for our non-profit organization to offer our volunteer time to help Best Friends." - Jim Struve

Each year, their group continues to grow, and we’re always grateful to welcome them back.

From lifelong animal lovers and rescue dog devotees to endurance athletes, adventurers, and even an air ambulance pilot, each member of the Best Friends team has a unique story and shared passion for helping animals. Whether they're inspired by a beloved soul dog, overcoming personal challenges, exploring the wilderness with their canine companion, or giving back to pets in shelters across the country, they're lacing up for a cause bigger than themselves.

Join us in cheering on Matthew, Suzanne, Emily, Victoria, and Dallas as they push their limits in one of the world’s toughest races to raise lifesaving funds for dogs and cats in need. ❤️🐶🐱
