Innovation. Teamwork. Resilience.
That’s what our Kane County 4-H robotics teams demonstrated this season at the Southern Regional FLL Qualifier.
All eight teams competed with skill and determination, earning six top awards, including Champion’s, Core Values, Robot Performance, and Innovation Project awards.
Even more impressive — five of the eight teams advancing to the State FLL Competition are from Kane County 4-H.
This program builds more than robots. It builds thinkers, leaders, and problem-solvers. Youth learn to collaborate, test, fail, adjust, and improve, the kind of skills our future workforce depends on.
And that starts now, not in college.
Thank you to our incredible volunteer coaches and the Utah STEM Action Center for making these opportunities possible. , , ,

Kane County 4-H Robotics teams showcased their work at the FLL Explore Festival held at Utah Tech in December.
In the UNEARTHED challenge, youth explored how robotics and technology help us understand what’s beneath the surface, from soil and natural resources to how we care for the land in our own community. This program isn’t just about building with LEGO. It’s about learning how to solve problems, work as a team, communicate ideas, and think like engineers. The Explore level sparks curiosity early and helps kids see they’re capable of tackling big ideas, confidence that extends far beyond robotics. So proud of our teams and the hard work they put in this season. And a huge thank you to our volunteer coaches, your time and commitment make robotics possible in Kane County.

Happy 1st day of Spring.
Today, we officially kick off our 2025 hatchling program.
For Kanab and Fredonia kids, stop by Crosby Home and Farm to look at these gorgeous eggs. For the valley kids, set up will be ready next week.
Quick fact about chicken eggs, they naturally come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. They are fascinating, but the colors don’t change their nutritional value.
Don’t forget to snap a picture, post it with , or send it to [email protected] for a chance to win a chick once they hatch! We have 3 more weeks to go!

We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding success of our Kane County 4-H teams at this year’s FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier! This competition is more than a challenge—it’s an opportunity for youth to explore real-world problems, develop innovative solutions, and demonstrate critical STEM skills.

Kane County’s Achievements:
Out of 34 teams competing:
✅ 8 Kane County 4-H teams participated
✅ 5 of the 9 teams advancing to the State were Kane County Teams
✅ 8 top awards earned, including:

🏆 Rising Star Award
🏆 1st & 2nd in Robot Design
🏆 1st in Robot Performance (earning highest score for robot game)
🏆 1st & 3rd in Innovation Project
🏆 2nd & 3rd for All-Around Champions

Innovation Project Spotlights:
Our teams tackled some of the most pressing issues affecting our oceans with creative and impactful ideas:
🌊 Robotic Whale Shark: A solar-powered autonomous vehicle housing worms that break down plastic, reducing ocean pollution with biodegradable waste.
🛥️ Enhanced Trash Clean-Up: Inspired by Marc Rober, a system of trash boats featuring grinders, solar power, and water filtration to clean waterways before trash reaches the ocean.
🐟 Backyard Fisheries: Addressing overfishing by designing backyard fish farms equipped with automatic feeders, aerators, and temperature control to raise fish sustainably.

We are beyond proud of our Kane County teams and their coaches for their hard work and creativity.
A huge thank you to the for supporting these opportunitues.

Our Kane County 4-H First LEGO League Junior Robotics teams have just wrapped up an incredible season exploring the depths of the ocean during the Submerged Challenge! 💧 With the support of , 8 teams of young innovators each researched, built, and programmed creative solutions to real-world ocean challeneges.

At the recent First Lego League Explore Festival held at Utah Tech University, these youth showcased their hard work as they presented their research projects to judges.

💡 A few of their project solution ideas:
🤖 A robot to sweep the ocean floor and clean up trash.
🐟 A “Fishy Motel” to protect endangered fish and provide habitats.
🏝️ An underwater lab to educate visitors about coral reefs and ocean life.
🔬 A research station designed to better understand and protect the ocean’s ecosystems.

Through this program, these young explorers gained hands-on experience with robotics, coding, and creative problem-solving while learning how the ocean impacts our daily lives. 🌍

A huge thank you to our volunteer coaches, parents, and partners who made this journey possible!
