Utah is the new Kalifornia, thanks to the crooks and theives who run it.
A Utah family of four needs $235,789 a year to live comfortably, according to SmartAsset’s 2026 cost-of-living study.
That’s about 2.4 times what the typical Salt Lake County household earns ($97,494, per the Census Bureau).
It also ranks Utah 25th among the 50 states, behind Colorado, Nevada and Arizona but ahead of Idaho and Wyoming.
Under the study’s budget, $117,895 covers necessities. For context, the typical Salt Lake County homeowner with a mortgage spends $2,124 a month on housing, and the median renter pays $1,592.
Another $47,158 goes to savings and retirement.
That leaves $70,737, or about $5,895 a month, for Jazz games, Lagoon passes, a week at Bear Lake and enough dirty sodas to keep every drive-thru line in the valley moving.
Going solo? A single adult needs $102,794.
