Three interest components, Leadership, Communication and Recreation, were the focus of the Horizons Program and its most substantial outcome was the development of the Kamiah Community Action Plan. The Lewis County Commissioners, Idaho County Commissioners, Kamiah Joint School District # 304, City of Kamiah, Kamiah Chamber of Commerce, Kamiah Kiwanis, Lions Club and the Nez Perce Tribe of Indians
adopted this plan. We now had a plan and partners but the Horizons Program had ended. Twenty-three community members graduated from the Horizons Program, we had momentum going but who were we and where were we going? After careful consideration of several options it was decided to form a non-profit 501 c 3 organization that would assist in the planning of the not only Kamiah’s future but the Upper Clearwater Valley. UCCF can accept non-taxable donations on behalf of the community for general purposes or earmarked for individual projects. UCCF is made up of three subcommittees, Communication, Recreation and Planning. Under these subcommittees are Action Teams (ie. “Save the Pool”, KYRA, GEM Committee, Robinson Pond) that focus on one particular issue but work together for the overall good of the community which helps to alleviate duplication and be more effective in project implementation. UCCF as a non-profit can apply for grant funds on behalf of it’s various Action Teams to assist in their success.
