One of our amazing 3rd graders hit the neighborhood with her scooter, a yard sign, and lots of school spirit to support our elementary school levy and the response was incredible!
Alongside other student volunteers, these kids are stepping up because they believe in their schools.

None of us like the fact that life is more expensive than it was a few years ago (a cup of coffee is HOW MUCH??).

Just like that latte, it costs more to run a school in 2026, even though we aren’t adding teachers or programs or anything else. This levy simply helps us keep the excellent teachers and schools that we already have.

We know it feels like we just asked for levy money for our schools. Unfortunately, that’s how our state laws are written: 80% of the funding comes from the state, 20% comes from local property taxes.

Last year’s levy funded operations at the high schools, but that money cannot be used for the elementary schools and KMS.

THE GOOD NEWS: We are trying to break the cycle of unpredictability.

We’re working to make school funding easier to understand and less confusing. Instead of surprise levy votes, there will be a clear, regular schedule. The district will focus on state advocacy when the legislature is in session and school funding votes will happen on a regular schedule, every 2-3 years.

This will reduce confusion, avoid surprise requests, and make it easier for everyone to understand and plan for school funding requests.

This allows our school district to plan ahead, work with the state to improve the funding system, and continue to responsibly manage school dollars.

Welcome back to the classroom, SD5 students and teachers – we hope this year is your best one yet.

To our community, thank you for standing behind our schools. Because of your support, our Kalispell high schools can continue offering outstanding programs and athletics. And with the levy you approved in May, our students will keep receiving the excellent education they deserve. We’re grateful for you!
