To those of you who don’t like porcupines, because “they shoot their quills”… we have some wonderful news:

They don’t.

They never have.

They never will.

Potential predators actually have to make contact with a porcupine to get quilled. Porcupines don’t chase attackers. They are relatively slow animals, so they simply curl in a ball and allow their quills to protect them, like a shield of armor.

If you see an animal with a mouth full of quills, it’s because it tried to bite a scared animal that was curled in a ball. The quills were never shot.

Porcupines CAN NOT shoot their quills. They are disliked by many because it’s assumed they can. Don’t hate on porcupines because of misinformation. They are actually beautiful creatures with lots of personality. They are just very misunderstood.

Our education birds are finally moved into their new homes! We could use donations of plastic mesh (new or used!) to line the enclosures so that the birds do not damage their feathers.

Don't ever throw food from your car window. Even "biodegradable" things like apple cores will attract creatures to the roadside, resulting in them and their predators like owls getting hit by cars.
