Eastside Youth Strong

Eastside Youth Strong Creating an environment where all Eastside and Kalamazoo youth can reach their fullest potential.

EYS is applying best practice methodologies to support neighborhood assets and address neighborhood needs and to provide capacity building, collaboration, and evaluation to align services. Ultimately, KCYC seeks to help transform the Eastside into a community where youth can reach their fullest potential by being economically self-sufficient, having healthy family and social relationships, graduat

ing from high school on time, and contributing to their community. Quality Programming in place at KCYC
KCYC uses the Youth Program Quality Assessment as the quality measurement tool to provide quality youth development. Today, KCYC has met or exceeded national standards for providing quality in youth programming. Social Emotional tool for youth success
KCYC uses the Devereaux Student Strength Assessment DESSA to support youth in building strong social emotional skills for life. The DESSA is used by staff and partners engaged with youth and helps staff understand where they can work with a youth to address skill building. Parent Feedback
Parents who are participating in the ISS program have shared that this effort has changed their child’s attitude toward reading and has also increased their confidence in reading. Parents who are working with the Student Engagement and Intervention Coordinator in Check and Connect have stated, no one has cared about their child more and they don’t know what they would do without the help of the program. Youth Feedback
Youth who participate in CHAMPS have said they have learned to be leaders and feel they have a sense of belonging. Youth who participate in Speak with Fire have said they feel listened to and have learned to trust as a part of the experience. Youth who participate in ASAP have said they feel they know the importance education and how it relates to their goals and dreams.
