New to our page? Let us tell you a little bit about ArtWorks MRC...

We’re a vibrant art studio, gallery, and shop where artists with disabilities create one-of-a-kind work across painting, drawing, mixed media, and more. Every day is a mix of making art, trying new techniques, and sharing creativity with the community in real time.

What makes it special? It’s not just about the art on the walls. It’s about the people behind it. Our artists are building skills, confidence, independence, and connection through the creative process. Visitors get to experience that energy firsthand, whether they’re browsing during an Art Hop, stopping in downtown, or finding a new favorite piece to take home.

Everything here is handmade, original, and full of personality. From bold mixed media pieces to detailed drawings and playful experiments, there’s always something new to discover.

MRC ArtWorks is more than a gallery. It’s a working studio, a creative community, and a place where art and growth happen together every single day.

As a funded partner of Kalamazoo Community Foundation (KZCF), we would like to extend our thanks to for their support of our Workforce Development & Employment program. The grant we received from KZCF will support our efforts to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities and mental illness by providing the tools, training, and community connections needed to achieve independence through employment. Together, we can transform the lives of individuals with disabilities and mental illness in our community, and this program is only the beginning.

Please do not use the r-word.

The r-word has a long history of being used to insult, exclude, and devalue people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Even when it’s said casually or as a joke, it can still cause real harm.

Words matter. Choosing respectful language helps create a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and included. We can all do our part by speaking with kindness and respect.

“Euphoria” didn’t resurrect “the R-word” but is actually reflecting a broader cultural shift that has been happening for years.

Pride Month is an important reminder that identity, inclusion, and belonging are deeply connected to the broader conversation around disabilities. Many individuals in the LGBTQ+ community also live with disabilities (both visible and invisible) which can shape their experiences in unique ways. Raising awareness helps reduce stigma, celebrate intersectionality, and promote accessibility and inclusion in all spaces. By recognizing and uplifting disabled voices within the LGBTQ+ community, we foster greater empathy and help ensure that everyone has access to the support, respect, and opportunities they need to live authentically and thrive.
