Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo

Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo exists to infuse arts and culture into the commercial, educational, and creative economies of our region.

ACGK is an organization that serves arts and culture throughout our community. We don’t make art, but we do help make the arts thrive. Much of the work we do is behind the scenes, and a great deal of our time is spent in one-on-one meetings with our members – with artists, advising them on how to write grants, or with organization leaders, helping them plan new programs. Because of our links withi

n the community, we make connections that bring people and resources together. ACGK networks with other community organizations, including those in education, human services and economic development. In this way, we make the arts part of our community dialogue.

- We help artists and arts organizations produce music, theatre, dance, visual, media and literary art.

- We administer three grant programs for both individuals and organizations.

- We provide exhibit space for visual artists.

- We produce Art Hop, an evening of art exhibits and great fun taking place monthly in downtown Kalamazoo.

- We produce Art on the Mall, a weekend long event, supporting local and regional artists.

- We promote collaborations of arts organizations.

- We produce Concerts in the Park, a series of free summer concerts in Bronson Park.

- We partner with WKZO to produce Creative Cafe, a weekly arts segment on WKZO that is also shared as a podcast.

- We provide information and networking for artists and arts groups.

- We manage the Epic Center, home to 11 arts organizations, a retail store and a restaurant.

- We manage the Community Box Office, which is open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 10 am to 1 pm. You may contact the box office at: 269.250.6984.

Today, we honor Juneteenth and celebrate freedom, resilience, culture, and the enduring contributions of Black Americans to our communities and our nation. Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our shared history, recognize the progress that has been made, and recommit ourselves to building a more just, equitable, and inclusive future for all.

We also invite you to continue the celebration this Saturday, June 20, at Rootead's Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Bronson Park. This free, family-friendly event will feature live performances, local vendors, food, youth activities, community resources, and opportunities to come together in celebration, reflection, and joy.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and joyful Juneteenth. We look forward to celebrating with you as we honor freedom, culture, community, and the power of coming together.
