If you’ve ever in your life needed health care these fights involve you and your loved ones. Organized labor is not only fighting for fair wages and benefits. The Michigan Nurses Association is fighting for safe patient/care ratios for YOUR benefit. So they can offer better care to their patients and retain talent instead of burning out healthcare staff. Our Families deserve the best care and staff we can get. ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻 solidarity

Organized labor met as a whole for the 69th Annual Michigan State AFL-CIO Community Services School being held at the UAW Education Center in Onaway, Michigan. Engagements for this years roster included workshop classes in Community Services 101, Retirement and Financial planning, Michigan AFL-CIO WDI: Building Employment Pipelines, Michigan AFL-CIO Advocates: Public Policy Advocacy, Basics of Healthcare/Medicare/Medicare Advantage, Michigan AFL-CIO WDI:Workplace Safety Standards, Union Volunteerism, and Union preparation for Strike, Lockout, and Layoff. Depending on the workshop, deep discussions focused around a foundation of open thought and future preparations on how Organized Labor has in the past and will continue to lead the discussions on key work force issues effecting our communities. Topics that came up included affordable child care, apprenticeships and training for now and into the next generation, and how to advocate for changes needed. In attendance were representatives from many AFL-CIO affiliated Unions, Labor Council Representatives, United Way Labor Liaisons statewide. UWUA Local 150 and Local 223 from Michigan were in attendance.

In the pictures are a community service project funded by the IBEW for the Community Services School this year. A small act of community service was scheduled and implemented by packing food boxes in an assembly line for the local Onaway food bank by the School attendees. In addition to this members in attendance brought dry goods for donation that were delivered to the food bank for local support.

Monday’s severe weather outbreak raced through the Lower Peninsula, leaving 185,000 of you without power. As soon as it was safe to do so, our crews sprang into action to restore power. Some of the jobs are easy to see, like lineworkers and tree trimmers. Others, like our damage assessors, logistics specialists, dispatchers, and customer care teams, contribute in ways that are not as easy to see but just as important in reducing your stress during an outage.

On behalf of the entire Consumers Energy team, thank you for your patience the past few days. Thank you for your kind words of support, delivered here on Facebook, via email or in person. We are proud to serve you!
