Kiwanis Club of Kalamazoo

Kiwanis Club of Kalamazoo We are a fun group of community-minded people who help improve the lives of children in the Kalamazoo area. Join us today!

We belong to the worldwide network of clubs from Kiwanis International. Our International Mission: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. We raise money and volunteer for local nonprofit organizations to benefit children in our local communities. We have supported and volunteered with Pretty Lake Camp since 1930. We

spend time assisting the Executive Director and the Staff at the Camp as they provide an outstanding, week-long free summer resident camping experiences to local children. We provide dictionaries, annually, to every third grade student in the Kalamazoo Public Schools System. We sponsor and support elementary, middle school, high school and college students with our Kiwanis branded Service Leadership Programs: Kiwanis Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K. We support and helped to found the Constance Brown Hearing and Speech Centers of Kalamazoo. We are busy and active in our volunteer endeavors, but are always having fun. We get together to build our Kiwanis friendships with fun events. Join us every Wednesday, noon for lunch at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo on W. Michigan Avenue and learn more about us! Currently, we are meeting back in person at the Radisson Plaza Hotel since Fall 2021. We belong to the worldwide network of clubs from Kiwanis International.

Spring is in the air (sort of?), and as we look forward to long walks in the woods, remember the Mildred H. Woollam Nature Preserve!

Our goal, partnering with the Kalamazoo Rotary Club, is to raise $30,000 over the next 3 years to build a picnic pavilion near the shore of Bass Lake. We are well on our way but there is still an opportunity to contribute!

During our Wednesday, February 18th Kiwanis Club meeting, it was our good fortune and our pleasure to be joined by Dr. Jeffrey C. King, MD to report on his recent medical mission. Dr. King gave a fascinating report of his ongoing work and learning and sharing in medicine at local hospital in Ethiopia.

Dr. King is a highly regarded and accomplished local orthopedist who is well known in academia and the medical community outside of Kalamazoo. He has taught and spoken all over the world and served on medical missions in many parts of the world.

Dr. King’s specialty is hand surgery and that is why he was sought out by medical officials in Ethiopia.

A very knowledgeable, kind and generous man, Dr. King gave us his insight on treating patients and working with Doctors in other parts of the World. Thank you to Dr. King!
