🇺🇸 Westnedge Chapter Patriot Headstone Workday 🇺🇸

Poor weather did not stop members of the Col. Joseph B. Westnedge Chapter, Michigan Society Sons of the American Revolution, from honoring three Revolutionary War Patriots on June 14.

Our volunteers cleaned and cared for the headstones of Private Levi Brown in Berrien Springs and Private John Burk and Israel Markham in Niles, Michigan.

This work supports the Michigan Roll Call, America 250, Michigan 250, historic preservation, and the SAR Headstone Preservation initiative. Caring for these graves is more than routine maintenance—it is a meaningful way to preserve the memory of the men who helped secure American independence.

Our long-term goal is to ensure that all 55 Revolutionary War Patriots buried within the Westnedge Chapter area have clean, properly maintained, and appropriately marked graves as part of our America 250 commemoration.

Rain or shine, we will continue to honor their service and preserve their stories for future generations.

The origin story of Michigan to celebrate the United States Semiquncentennial

On Saturday, June 20th at 2:00 pm the Straits Chapter will be holding a ceremony unveiling and Liberty Tree dedication in Mackinaw Island's Peace Park directly below Fort Mackinaw.

The original Liberty Tree was on the Boston Commons and was a rallying point for meetings regarding Royal Rule in the mid-1700's.

The MISSAR Color Guard will be there with traditional American Flags and when all is said and done there will be a cannon salute from the Fort. All are welcome to attend.

Mackinac Island, located in Lake Huron in northern Michigan, is widely celebrated as America’s most popular island destination, earning top honors from U.S. News & World Report and USA Today for its charm, history, and unique atmosphere.
