Yesterday, Kalamazoo County chose to invest in families.

We're thrilled to celebrate the passage of the Child Care and Early Learning Millage, a major step toward making high-quality child care and early learning more affordable and accessible for families across our community.

This victory reflects what our community believes: when children, families, and early educators have the support they need, everyone benefits. Together, we've made an investment that will strengthen our workforce, expand opportunities for young children, and help build a more equitable future for Kalamazoo County.

Thank you, Kalamazoo county, for showing up for children and families. The work continues, and we're excited to be part of it.

🗓️ Reminder: The Michigan Primary Election is tomorrow, August 4, 2026.

In this edition of | , we're explaining what a primary election is and why some races appear on the primary ballot while others do not.

Primary elections are not always required. They only take place when there are multiple candidates from the same political party running for the same office.

The purpose of a primary is to determine which one candidate from each party will advance to the general election. If there is only one candidate from a party seeking a particular office, that candidate advances automatically and no primary is held for that race.

Think of it like a qualifying round before a championship. The primary determines who advances to compete in the general election.
