A time was had as KZCF's Black Affinity Group (BAG) brought the 90s back for our annual Juneteenth celebration!

From delicious fried fish prepared fresh by St. Lou-Ish Fish to sweet desserts like banana pudding and caramel cake cupcakes, our KZCF staff enjoyed the gift of fellowship over a delicious lunch, an assortment of fun games and a nostalgic 90s playlist.

As always, we thank the BAG for facilitating such wonderful Juneteenth celebrations filled with warmth, fun and good times!

Last week, members of the KZCF team joined donors and community members for our annual Love Where You Live Bus Tour, where we visited five organizations working to make Kalamazoo County a place everyone can call home. πŸ’™πŸ’š

Gifts to our Love Where You Live funds support nonprofits doing the work of making our community stronger for every neighbor, and the Love Where You Live Bus Tour gives donors a chance to connect with those organizations face-to-face.

Thank you to Portage Community Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo, South County Community Services, Housing Resources, Inc.
and Milestone Senior Services for opening your doors and showing us what that impact looks like up close and in-person.

This tour was made possible thanks to the generous support of PNC, who powered our Love Where You Live Bus Tour for the second straight year! 🚌

Stacey and Sara know the LGBTQIA+ community is navigating a lot: from funding cuts to affirming organizations, to targeted legislation and hateful rhetoric.

But hope, they'll tell you, is not hard to find if you know where to look. Hear how Stacey and Sara approach the current moment, support the community and continue to Love Out Loud in Kalamazoo County. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ€ŽπŸ–€πŸ©·πŸ©΅

We had an absolutely wonderful time last week celebrating Dr. Cathy Kothari, associate professor emerita in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, and announcing the opening of the Dr. Cathy Kothari Fund for a Healthier Tomorrow in her honor!

For decades, Dr. Kothari has dedicated her career to advancing infant mortality research, an effort that has benefitted the lives of countless mothers, children and families throughout Kalamazoo County. We were so glad Dr. Kothari's family, colleagues and friends could be in attendance as we marked the occasion and contributed a gift to the fund!

Can you lend us a hand? 🎨 To celebrate 100 years of serving our Kalamazoo County neighbors, we've commissioned a street mural and we need your help.

Bring your family and friends for an afternoon of food, fun and painting on July 10 at KZCF.

Don’t worry: if it rains or pours, we’ll try again on Aug. 14.

Who do you plan on bringing? Tag them in the comments! πŸ‘‡

Kalamazoo Pride never disappoints! The turnout this past weekend was a joyful reminder that this community refuses to shrink. 🌈✨

Every person who walked through those gates showed up as exactly who they are: authentic, bold and radiant.

We loved getting to reflect that back at the KZCF booth β€” literally, through our selfie mirror. Thank you to our neighbors for saying hello, sharing smiles and making memories.β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ€ŽπŸ–€πŸ©·πŸ©΅

KZCF and several community partners enjoyed a wonderful morning of celebration as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo hosted a donor reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new Portage Street location today! KZCF has proudly supported Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo for over 40 years as they've continued to support and uplift our community's youth.

The building, which features activity rooms, common areas, a gym, a cafeteria and more, will open for neighborhood youth on Monday, June 8. Be sure to check out their Community Open House this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and will take place at the new Portage Street location (847 Portage Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001).

Shout out to KZCF's Pride committee for curating a community playlist of affirming anthems! Listen to all the songs at kzcf.info/pride-playlist and add the collection to your rotation this Pride month.

Anything you’d add? Drop your go-to Pride track in the comments β€” we want to hear what's on your list. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ€ŽπŸ–€πŸ©·πŸ©΅

Meet Jonathan Richardson: a retired chemical engineer, a partner to David, and someone putting his legacy behind a more equitable Kalamazoo County.

This Pride Month, we're sharing his perspective on community, meaningful allyship, and what it means to build something that lasts… Because, in his words: community doesn't happen by chance.

How do you Love Out Loud? β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ€ŽπŸ–€πŸ©·πŸ©΅
