Congratulations to our social work graduate student, Cadence, on her recent graduation! 🎓
Cadence has been an intern with the Resiliency Center for the past two years, helping in many roles. We wish her nothing but the best as she pursues the next steps as a social worker. 🎉

Below is a testimony from Cadence on her internship experience.

“My clinical practicum at the Resiliency Center was an invaluable experience that I will take with me throughout my career. This placement allowed me to observe different types of therapeutic work, ask questions, refine my skills, and ultimately establish trust in my clinical expertise. To be able to grow in partnership with kids and their families was beyond rewarding. Each day, I was able to support clients through conversations, making art, and even spending time with four-legged friends (shout out to the WMU Therapy Dog Clinic). I received collaborative support and encouragement from my supervisor, peers, and colleagues at the Resiliency Center that helped me remain hopeful, engaged, and inspired. It is bittersweet to say goodbye so soon! I am excited to embark on the next steps of my journey after graduation.”

This May, we’re reminding our community that feelings are meant to be shared and deserve to be heard. Mental health grows through support, connection, and compassion. 💚

Our mental health clinicians have spent the last few days in San Antonio at the ATTACh conference learning valuable information about trauma and attachment to bring back to the families we serve. We are excited to integrate these insights into our daily work!

Hi! Today is Giving Day at WMU. I just donated to the Resiliency Center. We are hoping to raise funds to support art and craft supplies for our social skills therapy group this summer. It would be great if our kids could learn to knit, cross stitch and paint while learning valuable social skills. Some of our kids make their first friend during this group therapy experience! Our OT and SLP students will run the groups and put their classroom knowledge to work. Win-Win! Consider making a donation? Here is a link: https://wmich.edu/unifiedclinics/giving. Then scroll down to Resiliency Center. Yay! Michelle

✨Team Member Tuesday✨

This week we have some very important dogs to shout out! 🐶🐕

Sunny, Poppy, and Mocha are the beloved therapy dogs of the Resiliency Center. Their welcoming, playful presence brings smiles to everyone who walks through our doors. While therapy can sometimes feel intimidating, these pups help create a safe, comforting, and approachable atmosphere for our kids and families.

Their impact doesn’t stop there. Sunny, Poppy, and Mocha also provide support to our staff - offering moments of calm, joy, and connection throughout the day. We are so grateful to have them as part of the team!

A special shoutout to Angie Moe for sharing them with us ❤️

Our students are the best! ⭐️

Under the guidance of Dr. Michelle Suarez, Resiliency Center Capstone student, Molly Veldheer is creating “The Bronco Well: Refilling Your Bucket So You Can Pour Into Others”. The Bronco Well is a limited series podcast that will provide caregivers of children with increased physical, cognitive, and/or emotional needs an opportunity to learn about THEIR own bodies, brains, and meeting their needs—not just about their children’s. With episodes no longer than 25 minutes, this podcast is designed to accommodate a caregiver’s busy lifestyle, allowing for a hands-free listening experience.

As an occupational therapy student, Molly has witnessed first-hand how hard caregivers work to provide for their child(ren), and what it looks like when they try to pour from an empty cup. Caregivers are the cornerstone of pediatric occupational therapy, and the Resiliency Center is thrilled to provide additional support just for caregivers.
