Waking Up to a New Dawn

Hey beautiful friends...

Have you or someone you love been struggling with substances? Feeling trapped, lost, or unsure about where to start?

You're not alone.

As a community, let's come together to support one another on this journey of healing and recovery. It's time to break free from the chains of addiction and rise into the beauty of our true selves.

Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process. It's unique to each of us, and it's okay to take it one step at a time.

Here are some powerful reminders to hold onto:

Your worth is not defined by your struggles. You are so much more than your addiction.

You are capable of growth and change. It's never too late to start anew.

You don't have to do it alone. Reach out to a loved one, a friend, or a professional for support.

Small steps lead to big progress. Celebrate your tiny wins along the way.

Self-care is not selfish. Take time for yourself, rest, and recharge.

You are loved, you are worthy, and you are strong. Remember these words whenever you need them.

Let's rise together, friends! Share your stories, offer encouragement, and let's support one another on this incredible journey of recovery.

From Tavern to Transformation: Eastwood Recovery Builds a Lasting Legacy of Hope
Posted March 30, 2025

What began nearly two decades ago as a bold effort to turn a troubled biker bar into a safe space for recovery is now a thriving, volunteer-run nonprofit offering hope and connection on the east side of Kalamazoo.

Eastwood Recovery continues to provide a substance-free environment for those seeking sobriety, structure, and fellowship. Founded by Mike Green in 2007, the organization has grown into a vital hub for safe, structured, phone-free 12-step recovery meetings, with over 450 held each year.

“When you think about what used to go on here compared to what goes on today, it's kind of amazing,” Green said in 2008. “A place of destruction has been turned into a house of construction.”

Weekly Meeting Schedule

Monday – Friday: 5:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Saturday: 8:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Sunday: 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The interior has been majority remodeled and is kept clean and welcoming, with a new women’s restroom recently added—thanks to the generous donation of time and funds from a few dedicated members.

After a six-month closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, Eastwood Recovery faced the very real possibility of closure and sale within months. But through perseverance and community support, it has rebuilt an entirely self-supporting attendance base—a testament to the ongoing need for spaces grounded in recovery and mutual support.

The organization remains entirely self-supporting—with no paid staff or government funding. All donations go directly to covering monthly expenses and investing in the maintenance of the building and property the nonprofit owns. A new roof and weather-tight façade are among the upgrades currently being saved for to ensure long-term sustainability.

“Yeah, I was damned scared,” Green recalled in 2008. “I had never done anything like this before… But if it weren’t for people helping me when I needed it most, I wouldn’t be alive today. This is my way of giving back.”

That spirit lives on.
“We aren’t here to save people—we’re here to remind them they’re not beyond saving,” said Christopher Mihelich, Executive Director of Eastwood Recovery. “This place survives because people believe in it—and more importantly, because they believe in each other.”
