How can you understand the needs of a community that you don't either reside or operate within?

Focus: HOPE's founders Father Cunnigham and Elanor Josaitis were so committed to addressing the disparity between grocery prices within inner city versus the suburbs that they sold their houses in the suburbs and moved back into Detroit in 1969. That's conviction... And that is the way, because you will not be able to effectively identify root cause if you don't take the time to observe and speak with people within the community to understand the issue and then work to help implement an effective corrective action.

This is why at BBBG Reads, Inc. we educate to elevate youth. By leveraging educational technology combined with site reading we will continue to positively impact literacy rates within urban and rural areas.

I really admire Brown Boy Brown Girl's mission to give kids of color an opportunity to see themselves in and feel empowered by what they read and write.

Today ( August 26) we have two more authors. We teamed up with the Edison Neighborhood Association for a back-to-school bash! I’m excited to have our first Latinx and Han Chinese authors! Bring your children to experience new culturals, free autographed books, school supplies and more!!!

Building community partnerships helps everyone in the community win! We had a wonderful time at First United Baptist Church’s back to school rally! Children on the Southside of Kalamazoo received free books today. It totally warmed my heart to see babies running over to the table to ask if they could have a book. “Yes, little baby you can.”

Children's author and mother Teresa Baker sought to fill a gap in programming for young people of color. Brown Boy Brown Girl, LLC markets books by BIPOC authors, holds a youth reading/writing program, and so much more.

This Saturday (August 12th), please join us for fun reading, face painting and arts and crafts. Children will meet authors from Atlanta and Detroit and receive free autographed copies of the books! Bring your children and your children’s friends!

We are proud to announce the WeeWriters Podcast is coming soon! The children will interview authors and entrepreneurs who live in Kalamazoo and other neighboring communities. The children created the logo and have booked their first children’s author. More details to come!!!
