We wanted to share the wonderful work of Israeli nonprofit Yad LaKashish, a recent Colef Fund grantee. Since 1962, Yad LaKashish has been promoting a model for healthy aging which engenders dignity, well-being and belonging among thousands of Jerusalem’s low income elderly. Take a look at the 2021 Annual Report to read about their inspiring work.https://coleffund.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/YadLaKashish_Annual_Report_2021.pdf

The Story of the Colef Fund

In 2016, the Congregation of Moses in Kalamazoo, Mich., became the beneficiary of two bequests from life-long synagogue members, Irving Schensul and his nephew Eugene Colef. The bequests established the Samuel J. and Mary E. Colef Memorial Fund, which is held in trust by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation and charged with “benefiting the needy.”

Through 2019, Colef grants have supported programs in the U.S. and 14 other countries, including 18 nonprofits in Kalamazoo and southern Michigan. Thousands of children, adults and families have benefited from the funding by receiving assistance with food and other basic needs, education, affordable housing, health, literacy and an end to substance abuse.
