Greetings VFW and Auxiliary Family,
I formally announced my candidacy for the Department Surgeon 2027-2028 term on the Department Website. I would like to introduce myself to everyone on our page and share a bit more about myself. A short single-page biography does not allow much, just as this introduction is a snapshot; I look forward to visiting with members at District Meetings throughout the year. I have a very strong belief in the phrase “GOD, Family, County”; I will try to give a short insight into how those three words tie into my desire to step up to help all VFW officers, chairmen, and members in the role of Department Surgeon.
GOD – The divine power that has watched over every Solder, Sailor, Marine, Airmen that has served this great country. I have been an active member of my church for over 20 years in youth mentoring, service to community, and for several years on the church board as Trustee. Recently I became a Wedding Officiant, I am now working towards becoming a licensed Chaplin.
Family – I believe we must build stronger family relationships in this fast pace, technology advance lifestyle; we are losing the bond that once held the family together. I have a beautiful, strong supporting wife of 23 years, she is my rock and best friend who supports me and my endeavors. We have four children, two live in Missouri, the other two live in South Carolina and Washington. They have blessed us with a 12 enjoyable and at times trying grandchildren, the oldest is a Marine Veteran who was at Abley Gate during the deadly period in our history. He has since realized the need for and importance of family, understanding, and help.
Country – We as veterans must return what we have receive from veterans before us. We must provide the same help plus more to our brothers and sisters now serving and those who will serve in the future. As veterans we must teach truth and honor to our youth, give veterans information to receive help with their health, housing, training, and just being there for them in their time of need. Some will do it by working on legislation and working with legislators. Others visit with comrades in hospitals, nursing homes, and residential care facilities. Many work in their local communities with diverse groups and agencies. I became a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties as well as the National Home.
After much prayer and discussion with my wife and family, I have decided to take my abilities and knowledge to the next level. I want to assist the department, districts, posts, and members across the state to help our veterans with their needs. I want to help connect veterans with local programs in their communities and through the Veterans Administration. By inspecting the VA facilities, I can better work with District Surgeons, guiding them through the programs, processes, and setting up time to work with Post Surgeons to connect veterans with their local health and community programs.
As of now, you have a choice of three very talented and skilled candidates to choose from as your next Department Surgeon. I would like you to consider supporting me and casting your votes for me to become your 2027-2028 Department Surgeon.
I look forward to visiting each of you at one of your district meetings throughout the year. I have included the bio that is on the department website that gives an additional picture of my background in the military and VFW.
