Friends of Windward Wounded Warriors

Friends of Windward Wounded Warriors NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT. Please put WW in the memo line.

We connect the wounded, ill, and injured Marines aboard Kaneohe Bay with the local community through friendships, mentorships and recreational activities. A wide range of injuries requires a wide range of services which includes surgery, therapy, training and education. These Marines and their families come to our beautiful islands during a very stressful time, facing new challenges and an uncerta

in future. While working hard to recover and rehabilitate, much of their time is spent on base involved in the extensive services provided there. Our organization, led by Chaplain Steve Jensen, provides a link to the local community by organizing social events, finding career internships, and introducing the Wounded Warrior program to local businesses and organizations. Donations can be made online at: www.memberplanet.com/campaign/honolulunavyleague/woundedwarriorfund or checks may be sent to Honolulu Navy League, PO Box 31032, Honolulu, HI 96820.

Thanks to Sgt Running Bird and the recovering service members for cleaning and decorating the Osprey memorial for military recognition month and Memorial Day. We were happy to note parents and other visitors have been here recently to pay their respects.

Thanks to members of the Wounded Warrior detachment for cleaning and decorating the Osprey memorial for Easter.

With serious storms the past 2 weeks, we finally gathered for our St. Patrick's day corned beef and cabbage meal. Everyone pitched in and took food home, so it wasn't too much on anyone. The kids even caught fish. A fun day for all.

Several spouses who became friends of Carmen Familia joined Chaps in attending her celebration of life and funeral today. We join her family's many relatives and friends in praying for peace and comfort in this difficult time.

Carmen was a wonderful mother, wife, friend, and practicing Christian. She will be sorely missed.

The weather guessers are predicting heavy rains Saturday on top of saturated ground, perhaps resulting in rock and mud slides, road closures and power outages. In the interest of everyone's safety, we are yet again postponing our St. Patrick's day meal until 28 March.

Please IM us if you plan to attend.

We wanted to welcome back SSgt Mann and say farewell to LCpl Martin by treating them to dinner at Haleiwa Joe's in Kaneohe. The prime rib was big enough for 4 of us to share, and the mile high pie (Kona coffee ice cream on an oreo crust) with 5 spoons gave us all a taste.

Thank you, sponsors, for enabling us to treat our Warriors to a special meal!

The St. Patrick's day meal at Chaps is postponed until the 21st due to the governor's emergency declaration and his request for everyone to stay off the roads. Flooding, ponding and large potholes are already effecting many communities, but the wind up to 70 mph and 8+ inches of rain are predicted for tomorrow. Stay safe!
