Thanks so much to everyone who came to our sixth Hamakua Canal Community Cleanup yesterday, 13 July 2024. We collected 1,380 pounds of trash.

Last-minute reminder: Hamakua Canal Community Cleanup tomorrow, starting at 8:00 a.m. We'll meet inside the chain link fence at 268 Hamakua Drive. Bring drinking water, sun protection, and covered shoes or waders. We'll provide disposable gloves and trash bags. Help protect Kailua's beautiful birds.

What is that bird flying over the ducks? It looks like a black-crowned night heron, but is has dark legs and feet, and they should be yellow. Perhaps it has been wading in dark-colored mud.
