After years of development, we are proud to share this recently published article outlining the unique framework and methodology that guides Huliauapaʻa’s work. Written collaboratively with current and former staff and board members, it reflects the philosophy and approach we have developed and refined over more than a decade. Since 2010, the Wahi Kūpuna Internship Program has mentored students across Hawaiʻi to pursue careers in cultural heritage stewardship. By weaving Indigenous knowledge with Western science, we are helping build a stronger future rooted in the resurgence of our ancestral knowledges, places, and practices.

Week 3 of our 2025 Wahi Kūpuna Internship Program in Kuʻia, Lahaina 🌱

We are officially halfway through our program! Last week, our interns learned about foundational ʻāina field methods, applying these techniques in different areas throughout Kuʻia. Additionally, our interns, Huliauapaʻa staff, and our partners from Kamehameha Schools participated in a huakaʻi in Kahoma with Lahaina community members. We are so grateful for all of the beautiful moʻolelo ʻāina shared with us thus far and mahalo all the hui and 'ohana for sharing these spaces with us.
