🦜 Meet ʻŌhala
On Friday, a woman named Ashley found a small green Indian Ringneck Parakeet injured in the street at the intersection of Hunnewell and Kamehameha Avenue. Ashley rescues cats — birds are outside her world — so she called Feather and Fur Animal Hospital in Kailua. And they said: call HFFN.
So she did. And we said: no problem.
X-rays confirmed no broken bones. Tonight ʻŌhala came home with us. He's wild, he's scared, and he screamed at us when we tried to syringe feed him formula. But when food touched his beak he decided to take it.
Hunger does that. 😄
ʻŌhala means green, young, not yet ripe in Hawaiian. He is all three right now. Two weeks of medication and care, and then we'll find him the right home on Oʻahu.
We'll keep you updated. 🌿
Ashley said it perfectly: "Mahalo for answering the call when birds are in need."
