Early submissions are open through January 1st for next year's Wailuku Film Festival. Wailuku Film Festivals return will be in mid June 2027

Next year’s theme is “Where Stories Gather”. Two new categories have been added: Animation and Ocean.

The Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter will screen the documentary The Cigarette Surfboard Thursday, October 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Maui Ocean Center, The Aquarium of Hawaii Sphere Theater, with check-in and a meet and greet at 5:30. It should be fun!

What will help the houseless?

The Maui County Council advanced a bill that would allow people without a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, or safety check/insurance to safely park in the designated Pūlehu relocation site.

Department of Human Concerns Director Margaret Willis says the site would operate 24 hours a day and provide shuttle transportation.

This was its first reading, with further discussion scheduled for October 19th and a final council vote anticipated October 23rd.

What could the El Niño storms mean for Hawaiʻi’s coral reefs in the months ahead??

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host a live webinar on October 13th discussing ocean temperatures and coral bleaching from El Niño. Dr. Thomas Oliver will provide details on what scientists are currently observing.

The webinar will be held virtually on Zoom, with participants invited to bring questions. Registration is available through Maui Reefs dot org

Kula residents are invited to share their experiences with water availability for a community meeting hosted by the East Maui Water Authority and ʻAha Wai O Maui Hikina Board.

The meeting will be next Tuesday, October 13th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kula Community Center.

Residents are encouraged to share personal accounts of water availability in Kula over the years, to help inform the East Maui Water Authority’s work
