Girls in the Lineup is one of Kelea Foundation’s core programs.
Through beach days, camps, mentorship, and ocean-based activities, girls and women have the opportunity to try new sports, learn ocean safety, build confidence in outdoor recreation, and connect with positive mentors.

This program is not just about a beach day.
It is about creating consistent opportunities for girls and women to participate in sports, leadership, and community in a supportive environment.

When people think about beach accessibility, they often think of a wheelchair at the beach — but accessibility to the beach goes far beyond a single piece of equipment.

Real beach access means asking:
Can someone safely get to the beach?
Is there accessible parking and pathways?
Are there trained volunteers or support staff available?
Is adaptive equipment accessible and safe to use?
Can families fully participate together — not just watch from the sidelines?

Creating accessible beach experiences takes planning, partnerships, funding, advocacy, education, and community support. It’s ongoing work centered around reducing barriers so more people of all abilities can experience connection, movement, and joy at the beach.
Accessibility is not a one-time solution — it’s a continued commitment to creating spaces where everyone belongs.

For many on Maui, the ocean is more than recreation — it’s connection, healing, culture, and community. 🌊

At Kelea Foundation, ocean access means helping individuals of all abilities safely experience the beach and ocean through accessibility support, adaptive equipment, transportation assistance, and inclusive community programs.

Through our Adaptive Maui program , we work to reduce barriers so more people and families can participate, connect, and feel supported — especially after disaster and displacement.
