Today we honor the life and legacy of Mercer “Chubby” Vicens — a true pillar of our Maui community.

Known to many simply as “Coach,” Chubby spent his life bringing people together, lifting others up, and leading with aloha, humility, and heart. From mentoring youth and supporting local families to strengthening our community through countless acts of service, he always showed up when it mattered most.
A founding leader of the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, former chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters Maui, and longtime advocate for our community, his impact will be felt for generations.

Chubby’s legacy is not only in the awards and recognition he received, but in the many lives he touched, the relationships he built, and the example he set for all of us.

These photos were taken last November when Uncle Chubby was honored with the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce Koʻi Award. This award recognizes individuals and organizations that uphold Hawaiian culture, integrate traditional knowledge into business, and better their community.

A hui hou, Uncle Chubby. Mahalo for showing us what it truly means to live with kuleana and aloha. 🤍

The Maui community and extended ʻohana pause to honor and celebrate the life of Mercer “Chubby” Vicens, a respected community leader, dedicated volunteer, and beloved friend.

04/02/2026

With much aloha, the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce shares the passing of one of our cherished leaders, Mercer “Chubby” Kuuhoapili Vicens.

A founding president of our organization and a Kōi Award honoree, Chubby’s legacy is woven deeply into our lāhui and the Maui community. He was a true servant leader—known to many as “coach”—who believed in lifting others, building relationships, and leading with heart.

Throughout his life, Chubby dedicated himself to service, from mentoring youth and supporting families to strengthening our business and cultural communities. His impact can be felt across Maui, from the Mercer “Chubby” Vicens Mentoring Center to the many organizations he helped guide with wisdom and integrity.

Above all, he was devoted to his ‘ohana, which he considered his greatest accomplishment.

We honor his life, his leadership, and the countless ways he inspired all of us to give back and move forward together.

A hui hou, Chubby. Your legacy will continue to guide us.

With deepest aloha,
Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce

Chef Isaac Bancaco. Born and raised Maui. Kula farms to Lahaina harbors. 🍽️

Isaac grew up between land and sea, learning early that food is connection—to place, to people, to culture. After training with culinary legends like Ming Tsai and Roy Yamaguchi on the mainland, he came home to lead some of Maui's top kitchens, earning recognition as Maui No Ka Oi's Chef of the Year.

His philosophy is simple but profound: work closely with local farmers, fishermen, and ranchers. Showcase the flavors of Hawaiʻi with both tradition and innovation. Let the islands speak through the food. His cooking blends culture, resilience, and community in every dish.

Join us at Holomua 2025 to experience Chef Isaac's vision firsthand.

We’re sold out! Both the Biz Fest and Koʻi Awards Gala are at capacity. 🌺

What started as a vision to bring back the Chamber’s signature event has become something bigger than we imagined. Holomua 2025 is happening this Friday, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Mahalo nui to Grand Wailea for hosting us and creating the space for this gathering. To our sponsors at every level who believed in this mission and made it financially possible. To our vendors, exhibitors, and silent auction donors who are bringing energy and generosity. To our speakers, panelists, and Koʻi Award honorees who are sharing their knowledge and inspiring us all.

And to everyone attending Friday, whether for Biz Fest, the Gala, or both: you are the reason we do this. Your presence, your participation, your commitment to building a stronger business community rooted in culture and aloha is what makes Holomua real.

Friday we gather. Friday we learn. Friday we celebrate. Friday we imagine our future Maui together.

See you there!
