More than half of Maui County households are below the ALICE Threshold.

Behind the data are working households balancing housing, food, transportation, and other essentials. The Kamaʻāina Credit for ALICE Households is a new Maui County-funded initiative providing direct financial support to working households caught between rising costs and the limits of traditional public assistance. As a pilot and study, it will help Maui County understand how direct financial support affects ALICE households.

ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed: households that work, yet struggle to afford basic needs. Think of the people who keep our communities moving, from food service and retail to caregiving. Maui County works because they do.

Molokai residents: meet Maui United Way today, Friday October 9th, at Molokai Community Health Center, 5:30–9:30 p.m. HST, and learn about ALICE.
