Andrew "Red" Harris Foundation Building Artificial Reefs to Enhance the Marine Environment Tragically, Andrew died after being struck by a boat while snorkeling on June 8, 2014.

Andrew Harris loved our local, South Florida waters, whether it was hunting for fish and lobsters offshore and in the Bahamas or just snorkeling and watching the “wildlife” off the beach and in the Intracoastal Waterway. Andrew’s family and friends formed the Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation to make sure he would not be forgotten and to build his legacy. We think building and naming artificial reefs

in Andrew’s honor is the best and most appropriate way to build Andrew’s legacy for present and future generations who love Jupiter and northern Palm Beach County like Andrew did. The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation will work to enhance our marine environment by building artificial reef structures off the shores of northern Palm Beach County. The foundation will create large new reefs in depths appropriate for SCUBA divers and smaller reefs near shore in depths appropriate for snorkelers. We expect that our first two projects will both be off Juno Beach, one in 30 feet of water, the other in 80 feet. We are the only organization in Palm Beach County that exclusively builds artificial reefs. All reefs will be created under the direction of the appropriate environmental agencies and the Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resource Management (ERM) in pursuit of our common goal of enhancing the marine environment. The foundation will work to make sure that the entire marine industry and everyone who enjoys fishing and diving in south Florida is aware of the common goals and benefits they share with the Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation. We will ask them to contribute funds or to help us raise money for our artificial reef building projects. Thank you for your support!

The Florida House of Representatives passed a bill yesterday naming the islands north of Cato's Bridge after Andrew!
The permit to restore and protect these island- the last remnants of the historic "Jupiter Narrows"- should be in hand very soon and then onto the work to save them!
The restoration is a Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance project- details are on both their website, jupiternarrowsconservation.org and the ARHF website

An update on the Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance project to restore the islands north of Cato’s Bridge in Tequesta. Almost there!!
the Andrew Red Harris Foundation is contributing all first half of 2026 donations to this project and matching them $ for $.
And new 2026 tax law allows charitable deduction of up to $2,000 even if you don’t itemise your tax deductions. Help us save the last remaining vestige of the historic “Jupiter Narrows” Mangrove islands. We have pictures dating back to the Civil War of what these islands once were part of. We cannot let them be lost for all time!

I checked on our Jupiter reef in 58' of water 1.25 miles offshore of the Jupiter inlet at 3 PM this afternoon and there was a huge amount of thriving marinelife. There were countless species and I saw several things I don't normally encounter, including a gathering of 4 critically-endangered sawfish.
The 17' tall replica of the Jupiter lighthouse is in perfect condition 9 years after we placed it in 2017.

Martha receiving the Palm Beach County proclamation to name the islands north of Cato’s bridge after Andrew. The Village of Tequesta council passed a naming resolution in September and the Town of Jupiter council has it on their docket to vote on in November.
It is now on to Senator Gayle Harrell and the State Legislature to make the Andrew Red Harris Islands a permanent state-designated name.
Olivia and Andrew Harris II, Christina and Damien (blocked out between Martha and Olivia) are looking on.
THANK YOU to the Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance, who is working to restore the islands, for leading the naming initiative!
