Hello! Welcome back and Happy New Year! We’re back on site and it’s a beautiful day in the Everglades. The raptors are out! Check out the Osprey showing off its fish and reminding everyone why it’s important to watch the speed limit, we all share space. Happy to say that the Bald Eagle nesting season is looking positive. The mated pair picked a different tree and built a solid nest. All signage for traffic calming is in place and love that everyone respects the nest. We have great hope that we’ll have a successful nesting season. Thank you for joining us!

On site in the Everglades! The Belted kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) flies way up in the sky and hovers over the water until it sees its prey, then dives into the water, catches its prey, and flies away to a nearby snag to eat. I was able to catch this guy while he was hunting. Love this little bird! 💕

Can’t drive 55!! Road sign says 55 mph. The lumpy surface of the road is telling me 35-45 mph, or all of the field gear in the car is flying everywhere. Today’s very cool adventure. Check out a Bald Eagle’s nest that has historically failed and needs monitoring for the next few years. Please join us!

We’re all hoping for a successful nesting season. First, they need to build a decent nest, the last one had the bottom fall out. Ten years of trying for this pair is a long time. Thanks.😊

Thank you, thank, thank you to my dedicated followers and our new followers!! Welcome!

On site in the Everglades, and it’s a great day for birding. Anhingas (Anhinga anhinga), Roseate spoonbills (Platalea ajaja), Little Blue herons (Egretta caerulea) and the Great blue herons (Ardea herodias). These are just of few of the many birds on site today. EnvironMend, Inc. is federally certified on the System of Award Management specializing in Environmental Protection and Management of Threatened and Endangered Species.

The female Everglades Snail loves foraging along the wetland area looking for Apple snails. There are not many Everglades Snail kites left in existence due to loss of habitat and food source. We’re lucky enough to have a breeding pair!
