Florida Civil Air Patrol Group 6 Hosts John F. Curry Camp at Camp Ahbalufa

Camp Ahbalufa, FL — Florida Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Group 6 hosted its annual John F. Curry Camp this weekend, bringing together cadets and senior members for a weekend of leadership training, aerospace education, and camaraderie at the picturesque Camp Ahbalufa.

Named in honor of Civil Air Patrol’s first National Commander, Maj. Gen. John F. Curry, the event focused on fostering core CAP values of integrity, excellence, and service. More than 30 participants from across Group 6 attended the two-day camp, which featured a mix of educational activities and team-building exercises designed to enhance skills and strengthen relationships.

Cadets participated in workshops, leadership, and drill and ceremony training. One of the camp's highlights was an overnight bivouac, where cadets set up tents and camped under the stars on the expansive Camp Ahbalufa grounds. The experience provided hands-on training in fieldcraft and emergency preparedness, with cadets learning how to navigate challenges in outdoor environments.

The scenic surroundings of Camp Ahbalufa added to the event's success, with attendees describing the camp as both inspiring and energizing.

Group 6 plans to make next year’s Curry Camp even more impactful, continuing to provide CAP members with opportunities to develop skills and friendships that extend far beyond the weekend.

Cadets Can Apply for Aim High Flight Academy

Applications for the U.S. Air Force's Aim High Flight Academy are now open to Civil Air Patrol cadets through Nov. 11.

The aviation scholarships provide for a three-week introductory flight program in the summer of 2025. After completion of the academy, cadets will understand the pathways to become a U.S. Air Force officer and aviator and earn up to 15 flight hours.

Group 6 CAC Holds First In-Person Meeting of the Term

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Advisory Council (CAC) is a leadership body within the CAP's cadet program, which is designed to provide cadets with a platform to express their opinions and ideas. CAC aims to enhance the cadet experience by fostering leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. Members of the CAC typically represent various squadrons and participate in discussions about program improvements, activities, and cadet needs. Groups 5 & 6 Collaborate to Supply Aircraft for ACE Awards Flight

West Palm Beach, Fla. — Groups 5 and 6 have teamed up to provide aircraft for the ACE (Aerospace Connections in Education) Awards Flight, a special event celebrating standout achievements in aerospace education. The collaboration is highlighted by the involvement of ACE Student of the Year, Kyle Adams, and ACE Teacher of the Year, Lt. Thomas Ellis, both of whom have made significant contributions to the program.

Kyle Adams, a student at Palm Beach Day Academy and a participant in the CAP (Civil Air Patrol) Aerospace Curriculum, has distinguished himself as a leader among his peers. His achievements in aerospace education earned him the top student award, and now he will play a key role in the ACE Awards Flight—a symbolic event that highlights the success of the program and its participants.

Lt. Thomas Ellis, a seasoned officer in the Civil Air Patrol’s North Palm Beach Squadron, was named ACE Teacher of the Year for his dedication to inspiring the next generation of aerospace leaders. His work with students like Adams through the CAP Aerospace Curriculum has been instrumental in their success. Ellis, a longtime advocate for aerospace education, has worked closely with both Lt. Col Shaw, Maj. Bynum, Group 5 and Group 6 and CAP National to ensure the logistical success of the flight.

The ACE Awards Flight served as both a celebration and demonstration of the achievements within the program. By providing aircraft for the event, Groups 5 and 6 are showcasing the power of collaboration between community organizations, schools, and aerospace leaders.

“We’re thrilled to be part of this event,” said Lt. Ellis. “The ACE program is all about fostering leadership, teamwork, and technical skills in our students, and this flight is a culmination of all that hard work. Kyle has been an incredible example of what students can achieve, and we’re proud to support him and all the honorees.”

Mandatory Cadet Protect Protection Meeting Held at Civil Air Patrol Squadrons Across Florida

North Palm Beach, FL — Civil Air Patrol (CAP) squadrons across Florida have recently been conducting mandatory Cadet Protect Protection meetings, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to cadet safety and well-being. These meetings are part of CAP’s effort to safeguard its young members from abuse, harassment, and misconduct, while promoting a positive and secure environment for learning and growth.

This past Thursday, the North Palm Beach Squadron held its mandatory meeting, led by Lt. Jules, who gave a comprehensive presentation on the Cadet Protect Protection program. The presentation aimed to educate both cadets and senior members about the policies and protocols CAP enforces to protect cadets.

Lt. Jules' Presentation Highlights:

• Understanding CAP’s Protection Policies: Lt. Jules walked through the various policies that CAP has in place to ensure cadet safety, including the zero-tolerance stance on abuse and misconduct. She also explained the specific responsibilities adult members and cadets have in fostering a safe environment.

• Recognizing and Reporting Misconduct: The presentation emphasized the importance of identifying potential warning signs of abuse or inappropriate behavior. Lt. Jules detailed the formal processes for reporting any concerns, ensuring that cadets and senior members know where to turn if issues arise.

• Creating a Culture of Safety: Lt. Jules highlighted the need for squadron members to work together in maintaining a respectful and secure culture. A major focus was on proactive measures, such as building trust within the squadron and encouraging open communication between cadets and leadership.

Attendees had the chance to ask questions during the presentation, fostering a transparent dialogue about safety concerns. Cadet Protect Protection meetings are designed to ensure that all CAP members are aware of their rights, the procedures in place to address issues, and the resources available to support them.

CAP’s Statewide Initiative

This mandatory training is being conducted in squadrons across Florida, with the goal of reinforcing CAP’s dedication to the safety of all its members. "The Cadet Protect Protection program is essential in maintaining the high standards of care we have for our cadets," said Lt. Jules, a CAP official from Florida Wing. "We are fully committed to ensuring that our cadets have a safe space where they can develop leadership and life skills."

CAP leadership continues to remind all members of the importance of these meetings, emphasizing that attendance is not only required but vital for maintaining a safe environment within the organization.

For members unable to attend Thursday’s presentation, the North Palm Beach Squadron will offer a makeup session to ensure everyone receives the necessary training. Similar efforts are being made in other squadrons to guarantee full participation statewide.
