Local Aid Services
Junction City Local Aid furnishes a variety of services to low-income residents of the area. We provide:
Monthly emergency food boxes, as well as weekly access to donated bread, produce, and staples like rice, beans and cereal. We get this food from:
• FOOD for Lane County: In an average month, we receive 12,500 pounds of food from this agency.
• Food drives—local businesses, S
cout troops, schools, churches and the US Postal Service all conduct food drives throughout the year that bring in thousands more pounds of food.
• Individuals who bring by purchased food items and garden produce to be distributed to our clients.
• Purchases we make using donated funds (this accounts for only a very small portion of our food supply). Assistance with medical needs and prescription drugs and supplies. Local Aid can provide vouchers for prescription and non-prescription medicines, usable at a local merchant. (No prescription pain medications or controlled substances are funded by this program.) With the cooperation of the Junction City School District, we also fund a voucher program that allows families screened by the school nurse to buy non-prescription medicines for coughs and colds. In addition, Local Aid provides Junction City schools with lice treatment kits. Finally, Junction City school children can be referred to a local dentist for emergency dental care at Local Aid's expense. We provide information on and (if appropriate) referral to other services and sources of assistance in our community. Bus tokens (Lane Transit District), to enable clients to get to doctor appointments, job interviews, and other important events in their lives. These items are available in our lobby, donated by people in our community. Junction City Local Aid is an equal opportunity provider.
