This is from the Kansas Volksmarching Club, and this weekend there is a Volksmarch in Lawrence, Kansas.

Hello walkers:

Just wanted to remind our volkssporters about our walk this Sunday in Lawrence, starting at the original Johnny's in North Lawrence. The leaflet is attached for your usage.

Also wanted to inform you that there is major road construction on 6th Street, on the south side of the Kansas River. Water lines and road repairs.
This construction changed the route for the walkers this weekend! The 10km trail will be some of the old and some new. The 5km can be a choice.

Also, if you walk the 10km Lawrence YRE, prior to my arrival on Sunday am, you will need to make some adjustments on your own around the stadium. Part of the stadium is gone and fencing is up which interferes with the older route.

I wanted to thank the following walkers who joined the club &/or made a contribution to the Sod Stompers. The contributions have helped! Please let me know if I inadvertently left off your name. My list just disappeared! 😏

Leon Graves, Romona Ward, Cynthia Hines, Trudy & Jerry Duffman, Karen Heady & Rod Smith, Barbara Kline, Anne Grenier,Cathy Childress, Susasn Medlin, DeAnne & Gordon Brown, Jeanne Miller, Lori Anderson

Hope to see you on Sunday! So far a good forecast for walking. ☘️☘️☘️

Dorothy Bramlage Public Library Presents 2024 Community Conversation featuring Letters to Martin by Professor Randall Jelks

The Dorothy Bramlage Public Library will hold its first Community Conversation of 2024 on Friday, February 9 at the library at 6:00 p.m. Letters to Martin: Meditations on Democracy in Black America by Professor Randall Jelks will be the featured title.
Copies of the book are available now at the library at the Circulation Desk including twelve signed by the author for the first registrants. Professor Jelks will also participate in the discussion via Zoom.
Evoking Dr. King’s “Letters from Birmingham Jail,” these meditations speak specifically to the many public issues we presently confront in the Unites States including economic inequality, freedom of assembly, police brutality, ongoing social class conflicts, and geopolitics. Written in the form of letters to Dr. King, Professor Jelks invites readers to reflect on U.S. history by centering on questions of democracy that we must grapple with as a society.
Jelks is an award-winning author, documentary film producer and professor. He is the author of four books and his writings have appeared in the Boston Review, Los Angeles Review of Books, and many blogs, journals, and periodicals. He and Letters to Martin were recently honored when it was named one 2023’s Kansas Notable Books by the State Library of Kansas.
For more information about this program and how you can participate, contact Donna Porter at the library at 785-238-4311 or [email protected].

Join us for the next Big Idea on February 9 at noon

Donna Rae Pearson, Collection Development and Museum Specialist at the Kansas Historical Society, will discuss the 12 Black women who were plaintiffs in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka case. Their contributions to the Civil Rights Movement have often been overlooked.

Went to the Junction City Farmers Market, Saturday a week or two ago; it was so good with so many great deals, good conversations, great people. One of my personal best finds was mango salsa. This salsa is so good on big spicy sausages, like a Chicago dog. Posting pics for your preview, check them ALL OUT!!!
