Wisdom Wednesday 💡
We’re learning that God doesn’t waste seasons.
Sometimes He calls us into something for a lifetime. Other times, He calls us into something because of what He wants to do in us, through us, and prepare us for next.
Years ago, we sold our house and opened the Mission and Movement Center because we were convinced God was leading us to do it. He opened the door, provided the opportunity, and made the path clear.
So when He later began calling us toward full-time missions with FamilyLife, letting go of something He had previously called us to was confusing.
Jennifer wrestled with the call to full-time ministry. Nathan wrestled with letting go of a dream he loved.
But God was faithful to make the next step clear too.
After praying specifically about whether it was time to pursue FamilyLife and knowing that would mean giving up the center, we experienced a significant decline in membership soon afterward. For us, it was confirmation of what God had already been stirring in our hearts:
That season had accomplished what He intended it to accomplish.
Looking back, we can see His fingerprints all over it.
The Mission and Movement Center wasn’t a detour on the way to ministry. God used it to teach us about serving people, stepping out in faith, sacrifice, trusting His provision, and following Him without knowing what the outcome would be.
In so many ways, He was preparing us for what He would ask of us next.
And maybe that’s the wisdom in it:
Just because God asks you to release something doesn’t mean you misunderstood Him when He asked you to begin it.
Sometimes obedience is saying yes.
Sometimes obedience is staying.
And sometimes obedience is recognizing that God has completed His purpose for a season and trusting Him enough to let it go.
We still don’t know exactly what our roles within FamilyLife will ultimately look like.
But we don’t have to.
Our confidence isn’t in knowing the whole plan. It’s in knowing the One who does.
God doesn’t waste seasons.
And when He says it’s time to move, we want to trust Him enough to follow.
