Animal Action League

Animal Action League After working for 15 years in affordable spay/neuter clinics, it became obvious that those in most desperate need of this service were not being reached.

We offer low cost quality, “no frills” spay/neuter/vaccine service and bring it directly to the communities where animals most desperately need help

paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/1704491 Animal Action League (AAL), a 501(c)3 non- profit corporation, was founded in 1989 for the express purpose of providing spay/neuter services for underprivileged cats and dogs. Although this service

was offered free to low income pet owners, there was as high as a 50% “no show” rate. In checking with these owners, the “no show” cause was due to transportation problems or they forgot, other plans intervened – in other words – such service was not high on the owner’s agenda. Studies have determined that 3% of the pet-owning population is creating the overpopulation problem; and that this 3% are primarily low income and/or non-motivated pet owners. Bearing in mind that –
TO BE EFFECTIVE, A PROGRAM MUST ADDRESS THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION,
AAL determined that a mobile clinic would be the most effective way to address this issue. We knew we could offer quality, “no frills” service and bring it directly to these communities where these animals most desperately needed help. In 2005, our goal was realized by acquiring a 32 foot, custom built, mobile, spay/neuter trailer. One such area of concern is Thermal, California, which is a fair-sized area comprised of small, unincorporated towns, several low standard mobile home parks, and the Torres-Martinez Indian Reservation. The most common employment is farm-field work. With this group, our subsidy rate is on average 85%. Our priority is the larger breed female dogs, because their litters tend to be larger and their chance of adoption is minimal. We have never refused to fix a larger female dog based on inability to pay. With the owner’s permission, we usually take the puppies, anywhere from 5 to 26 per visit, and put them up for adoption. The most difficult issue to combat is dealing with un-motivated pet owners. In attempting to explain the benefits of spay/neuter to these individuals, we have been told “Oh, we just dump the puppies and kittens in the desert, and the coyotes take care of the problem.” However we persist in our efforts and, by providing free spaying and even pick-up and delivery of these pets, we are slowly making a difference. Unfortunately, this area has become a pet dumping ground for people who live in adjacent communities. So, we need to increase the area we have been covering.

From Our Dr. Hermann: 6/1/26
Recovery Update!!: First, I'd like to thank everyone who has sent their get well wishes, food, snacks, care, support, encouragement, understanding & LOVE during my recovery from the brain bleed. It is truly a humbling experience to have so many people care for you!!! And thank you all for abiding by my initial requests to refrain from texting/calling during those first couple weeks ...it was a brutal start to recovery. HOWEVER, I'm currently doing very well! There are no more remnants of the blood in the brain so those results have definitely put me in a much more positive place mentally!! Physically, I'm also doing much better...I've been able to drive again as well as having started a long walk regimen. At this point, it will come down to finding the proper medication levels to control my blood pressure and 'time' for my body/brain to finish up the recovery process (still have a visual sensory overload from time to time that causes my brain to bog down a little).... Looking forward to getting back to work in a few weeks and stepping out onto the softball field again ❤❤❤ Much LOVE to you all!!

Here's our JUNE 2026 Calendar.
Open booking for JUNE 2026 is on MAY 27TH at 8am sharp.
You must call 760-366-1100.
PRESS OPTION #4 and LEAVE A MESSAGE.
We stop accepting spay/neuter requests at 9:00am (one hour after the lines open for open booking day) due to reaching our max number of spay/neuter requests for appointments for the following month. WE UNDERSTAND this is a very tedious, frustrating and time consuming task to get an appointment. Our phone lines will be busy and you will have to call over and over again and only 200 LUCKY individuals will get through in one hour. GOOD LUCK!!
¡¡BUENA SUERTE!!
If you don’t get an appointment during open booking day, please try our standby option. Directions for a STANDBY appointment can be found by calling our office, 760-366-1100 or on our website, animalactionleague.net. Information regarding the types of pets we can’t spay can also be found on our website.
Vaccine and microchip clinics are held from 10am-2pm during spay/neuter clinics unless noted otherwise on the calendar. You DO NOT need an appointment for vaccines or microchips.
Please be advised we are a non-profit with ONE medical team without government funding. We have the right to refuse service to anyone who treats our staff or volunteers with disrespect. We also have the right to refuse any pet for any reason due to our small staff and mobile clinic size.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we are trying our best to cover a vast area that is in desperate need of our affordable services. Thank you for wanting to be part of the solution.
