I was a Pell grant recipient and once I received that, I searched for and took advantage of every financial aid opportunity.

This helped me to build my credit early and was able to open 0% lines of credit, which helped me to earn my college degrees with little debt.

5 years ago I defended my dissertation on faculty diversity (http://dspace.calstate.edu/bitstream/handle/10211.3/173583/AS352016EDDS57.pdf?sequence=1) and shared the experience of many BIPOC who passionately work hard and took the extra steps to achieve their goals and ways institutions can be more equitable in their hiring practices.

Although I’m not actively participating in any educational institutions, it’s still important for me to educate folks about individual and collective karma and how it influences institutions and how we can start to heal and rebuild from societal constructs that have kept some folks down while others prosper.
