Thanks again to Teeters Toys in Baker City, OR and for the loaner snowmobile. Unfortunately with a dismal winter we weren’t able to use it as much as we’d hoped. Regardless it was an amazing tool to collect snowpack data and also for teaching our avalanche classes! This is an amazing partnership, that’s been ongoing for many years.

Remembering two amazing people, Kip Rand and Nick Burks who both worked for the WAC. This is a tough time of the season as these two passed away in the mountains in separate incidents on March 6 and 8th. Their spirit lives on!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the 14th Annual Eastern Oregon Backcountry Festival! This is our largest event and fundraiser of the year. It was a solid turnout and we appreciate everyone who showed up to support the WAC.

Shout out to everyone who baked a pie, bid on one, or donated an item to the raffle or auction. It takes a village to keep our organization operational. Finally, thanks to everyone who volunteered their time.

We hope to see everyone at next year’s event, if not sooner!

Join us this weekend the celebrate the 14th Annual Eastern Oregon Backcountry Festival!

We have a lot of fun things planned so head to our website to check out the details, and grab your friends and come celebrate mountain culture and help the WAC raise funds for avalanche forecasting.

We’ve got pie auctions, ski movie screening, backcountry race, snow science and rescue clinics, raffle, live music, and a guided tour!

It’s going to be an awesome weekend and there is no better way to spend it than up at Anthony Lakes.

Join us on at Anthony Lakes THIS SATURDAY at 8 AM as we remember our dear friend Kip Rand w/ a Backcountry Race dedicated in his honor.

Throw on your AT skis or splitboard and see if you can beat Kip’s record. He was one of the fastest, kindest, and bravest amongst us. He’d appreciate folks working up a sweat in his honor!

All proceeds from this event go directly to the WAC to help fund Avalanche forecast and education.

The WAC is hosting an Avalanche Rescue and Education Course on Sunday February 8th @ 9 AM at Salt Creek Summit Sno Park.

This event is welcome to skiers, snowmobilers, snowshoers, and anyone who is interested in learning more about avalanche safety and practicing your companion rescue skills.

This course is donation based and we encourage you to contribute whatever you feel is appropriate. Help spread that word so anyone who would like to attend is able to!
