Nickel Open

Nickel Open We are a local non-profit committed to raising awareness, building a community of hope for all, destigmatize mental illness & advocate for su***de prevention.

*If you are in crisis, please call the National Su***de Prevention LifeLine at 1-800-273-TALK (8755)*
On June 2, 2017, our Nick lost his battle with depression at the age of 21, in spite of psychiatry support, medication, the support of his family and partner and being enrolled in group therapy. Nick had a big heart and an even bigger smile. That same smile hid the darkness of depression and inner

struggles he fought to control. Mental illness fuels insecurities and tells lies and people, like Nick, grow weary and give up the fight. We started a non-profit in Nick’s name to raise awareness of mental illness, erase the stigma associated with it, advocate for su***de prevention and raise money through fundraising events for NAMI MN.
34,000 people per year lose their battle with mental illness. Su***de is the 10th leading cause of death among adults and the 3rd leading cause of death among adolescents. Our mission is to bring more awareness and do anything we can to reduce these statistics. Thank you for your support!

A quick highlight surrounding mental health: recently the New York Times reporting showed that since the launch of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, U.S. su***de rates have declined by 11% mainly in youths —representing thousands of lives potentially saved. It’s a powerful reminder that awareness and action matter. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/24/briefing/youth-su***des-drop.html?smid=url-share

The goal of Nickel Open has been to spread this awareness and share this number publically whenever and wherever.

Thank You so much for you generous support of all our events including HS Green Out events at sporting events, Teacher Grants for class room activities around mental health and co-sponsoring Speakers for students in HS and Middle Schools.

We couldn't do it without your support, so Thank You again, again and again!
