This Memorial Day, your Joplin Professional Firefighters pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We ask you to join us in reflecting on their courage and dedication, and to never forget the price paid to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

God Bless America, and may we always remember our fallen heroes.

A fun day in the water can turn tragic in seconds. Stay alert, stay prepared, and help keep our community safe this summer.

Swim Safety Tips:

• Never leave children unattended near water

• Designate a responsible adult as a “Water Watcher”

• Wear properly fitted life jackets when boating or around open water

• Avoid alcohol while swimming or supervising swimmers

• Learn CPR — it can save a life in an emergency

• Swim with a buddy whenever possible

From all of your Joplin Professional Firefighters, have a safe and enjoyable summer!

Our hearts are with Boston tonight.

Sending our thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters of IAFF Local 718 during this difficult time. From the members of Joplin Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 59, we stand with you in solidarity and support.

Bobby Kilduff was one of our best.

For 24 years, Bobby proudly served the people of Boston as a fire fighter, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He was a Marine, a Jake through and through, and part of a family dedicated to serving others – on and off the job. The Kilduff name means something in Boston and in our union.

Bobby made the ultimate sacrifice last night battling an aggressive 3-alarm fire in Dorchester. Through the efforts of Bobby and others on scene, all five residents made it out safely, and the fire was kept from spreading to adjacent homes.

BK loved the job and our city, but more than anything, he loved his kids – Mason and Hanna Jane. Please keep them, his family and friends, and our Local 718 brothers and sisters, in your prayers.

Today is always filled with mixed emotions for so many. We will never forget the 161 lives lost on this day. We will never forget the unnamed heroes who stepped out of their comfort zones to help complete strangers in their greatest time of need. We will never forget the overwhelming support Joplin received from our neighbors and communities across the country.

Today, we remember those we lost, honor the heroes who answered the call, and celebrate the legacy of strength, compassion, and resilience they left behind.

We can’t say enough about retired Captain Vince “Vinny the” Kidd! Vinny served the citizens of Joplin for 20 years before retiring as a Captain in 2012. But he wasn’t done serving. He returned to Joplin Fire and proudly served the community for another five years before retiring again in 2025.

Now, he continues to be a shining light for the Neosho School District as a security officer at the high school. While we hated to see him leave the fire service, it’s clear he is still making a difference and touching the lives of students every day.

Once a servant, always a servant.

Our school security officer Vince Kidd was caught going above and beyond this morning in the rain getting soaked to hold the umbrella for our students so they'd be dry for the day. This is Working Like a Wildcat!
