Hillsdale Conservation District

Hillsdale Conservation District Your Land, Your Water, Your Michigan!

As a local, special purpose unit of government, the Hillsdale Conservation District is governed by a locally elected five-member Board of Directors. The guiding philosophy of the Michigan Conservation Districts is that local people should make decisions on conservation issues at the local level, with technical assistance provided by government. The Conservation District is the local provider of Na

tural Resources management services that help our citizens conserve their lands and our environment for a cleaner, healthier, economically stronger Michigan. We assist in natural resource management for improved water quality, reduced soil erosion, farmland and wetland preservation, wildlife habitat, clean air, energy conservation and land beautification.

Another successful Conservation Around the County event! A big thanks to everyone who was able to join us out at Wingnut Farms! We had a great time learning about our local organic, grass fed dairy and how they utilize rotational grazing in their operation.

A huge thank you to Ron and Sue Rusk from Wingnut farms for hosting and Farmer Led Conservation for partnering with us!

Our local election is approaching!

Serving on your local Conservation District board is one way to shape decisions that affect land, water, agriculture, forests, wildlife, and conservation education in your community.

How to get started:

1. Find your local Conservation District
Use the MACD District Directory: https://members.macd.org/member-directory

2. Contact the district office
Ask when their annual meeting is held and when nominating petitions are available

3. Get your signatures
When nominating petitions are open, get 5 signatures from county residents supporting your run and turn it in to your District by the deadline

4. Meet people and ask for their vote!
Get out in the community and share why you are running for the Conservation District board and how you will support your District through your leadership.

Local conservation decisions start with community involvement. Have you ever considered running for office?
