What an honor --- We'll soon be displaying a portrait and story about Major LeGrand "Legs" Johnson -- famed leader of F Co., 502nd Pqarachute Reg., 101st Airborne Division who led his unit at Normandy on June 6, 1944 and into Holland on Sept. 18, 1944. He was wounded in Holland (twice). Johnson was the then-Captain, (featured in "D-Day" and "A Bridge too Far") who was removed from the "dead pile" by one of his troops and taken to a surgeon, who was forced at gun-point to operate (and save) Major Johnson. We appreciate Maj. Johnson's family providing this story to the History Center.

I simply love this place and my town --- primarily for our history and heritage and definitely for our location in the foothills -- smack-dab between the mountains and piedmont on the banks of the Yadkin River where 20+ historic trails intersect!!!!
