SCDT IS LOOKING FOR A THEATRICAL MAKEUP ARTIST!

Sun Country Dance Theatre (SCDT) is currently looking for a professional theatrical/character makeup artist for the upcoming production of our original story ballet “Alice’s Adventures”, being presented at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Gainesville, FL, in March 2027.

The production features a variety of whimsical characters, including the White Rabbit, Dormouse, March Hare, Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, and others, so we are looking for someone with experience creating stage and character makeup for a professional theatre setting.

We would love to connect with someone in the Gainesville/Alachua County, FL area who has experience with theatrical makeup and would be interested in working with our dancers for this exciting production!

If you are a makeup artist with theatrical/character makeup experience and are interested in learning more, please send SCDT a private message with a link to your portfolio or examples of your work. If you know someone who would be a great fit, please feel free to tag them in the comments or share this post. Recommendations are very welcome!

Thank you for helping us spread the word!

🩰✨ MEET OUR GUEST TEACHER — ESTEFANIA GARCIA! ✨🩰

We are thrilled to welcome Estefania Garcia as a guest teacher for the 2026–2027 Sun Country Dance Theatre auditions this Sunday, August 16th!

Estefania’s connection to Gainesville’s dance community makes her visit especially meaningful. As a young dancer, she began her training locally with Judy Benton and Alora Haynes, and her journey has since taken her to some incredible places, including training at The Washington Ballet School, Orlando Ballet School, the University of Florida, and Santa Fe College. She went on to earn her M.A. in Dance Education from New York University, with a concentration in American Ballet Theatre Ballet Pedagogy.

As an educator, Estefania has taught locally with Sun Country Dance Theatre and Santa Fe College and has guest taught with Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, Miami City Ballet School, Sarasota Ballet School, and the JKO School at American Ballet Theatre.

We are so excited for our dancers to have the opportunity to learn from Estefania, experience her knowledge and perspective, and be inspired by her journey as both a dancer and educator. ✨

There is something so special about seeing the journey of a young dancer who began training right here in Gainesville and has gone on to share her passion and expertise with dancers in communities around the country. We are delighted to have her back in Gainesville to work with the next generation of young artists! ❤️

We can’t wait to see you Sunday!

Come ready to dance, learn, and be inspired!

🎓✨ Senior Spotlight: Adelle ✨🎓

For the past 9 years, Adelle has been a dedicated and talented member of Sun Country Dance Theatre, captivating audiences in countless featured roles and growing into a beautiful artist both on and off the stage. 💙

Adelle has trained with Dance Sun Country for 11 years in ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, tap, and clogging, with ballet always holding a special place in her heart. Throughout her years with our company, she has not only excelled as a performer, but also emerged as an incredible leader and role model for younger dancers.

This season, Adelle stepped into a new role as part of the faculty at Dance Sun Country—teaching afterschool dance at Oak Hall School and leading her own preballet and modern classes. Her passion for dance and dedication to inspiring others has made a lasting impact within our studio and company family.

Committed to continually growing as an artist, Adelle has attended numerous prestigious intensives and workshops including Orlando Ballet, Florida State University, UF & Santa Fe Young Dancers Workshops, and the Precision Dance Collective Workshop at Pace University in New York City, where she trained with Radio City Rockettes dancers. Most recently, she returned to NYC to study at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway with some of the industry’s top instructors. 🗽✨

Outside of dance, Adelle is graduating from Santa Fe High School after two years of dual enrollment at Santa Fe College and active involvement in the Santa Fe National Beta Club and community service.

This fall, Adelle will attend the University of Central Florida to study Environmental Engineering while continuing her dance training and performance opportunities. 🌟

Adelle, we are so proud of everything you have accomplished during your time with Sun Country Dance Theatre. Your artistry, leadership, and dedication will leave a lasting mark on our company, and we cannot wait to see where your journey takes you next. 💫👏
