Okinawa Arts Research Studies World Scene

Okinawa Arts Research Studies World Scene We support various individuals and groups to bring attention to the communities about the different arts that are shared with Okinawa

We educate with seminars, lectures, exhibits, and shows in our establishment or other locations if there is a greater need than what we can provide. We do lease our building out to others for the same reason.

I ordered this months ago and the publication was finally completed. I was lucky enough to be home when it was delivered by USPS and left on the ground just minutes before a rain downpour would have soaked it. Thank you Greg Smits for writing and having published such extraordinary material.

A great community, country, and world contributor.

Today is the birthday of Seikichi Toguchi sensei founder of the Shoreikan. Today he would be 100 years old. Toguchi Sensei was a senior student of Seiko Higa and Chojun Miyagi both of whom were students of Kanryo Higashionna. Toguchi made several contributions to Goju-Ryu. First he created additional kata to produce a more progressive teaching curriculum. Second he created the Daruma Taiso exercises which expanded on the Junbi Undo created by Miyagi sensei. Third he created 2 man application drills for the Goju-Ryu kata. He was also the first senior Goju-Ryu sensei to teach the Americans stationed on Okinawa. Below Toguchi sensei shows his incredible flexibility which he was renown for.

Just Train!!!

Each of Miyagi’s students had their individual greatness that they were encouraged to explore and further develop the art of Goju Ryu.
All questions of successor are largely a waste of time. Let those who are unfulfilled argue the toss.
For those focused upon looking deeper, investigate what made each student unique and strong in THEIR way. Seek to emulate and combine the various greatness in order to create the ultimate version of YOUR art.
