MESEA ‘Off-Grid’ PV installation on Camp in Milo, Maine, 2013
Maine Solar Energy Association, 2018 ... the road has been long and windy indeed. The three non-profit organizations involved are SEADS of Truth, Inc, Downeast Alternative Design Solar, Inc. as well as MESEA, the Maine State Chapter of ases.org (American Solar Energy Society), Boulder, CO.
The folks involved were inspired after the 3 Mile Island, PA near ‘melt-down’ in 1979 and increased interest in nuclear power as well as the possible alternatives ... Solar Energy! A need for solar education existed and as folks demanded change, we decided to move to Maine (1980), and found a property to establish as our Solar Seminar Center in Columbia, Maine!
Since the ‘early days’, we have branched out in Washington County, Maine, (‘Downeast’ , the Sunrise County, USA), and now the property in Jonesport where MESEA has been located at the Passive Solar Home, Dr Richard Komp built in the mid 1980s. After many years of solar activism as well as educational presentations across the country and around the world, we are settling back into the Jonesport solar home. We now have dadsolar as the ‘owner’ of the property, since Dr Komp has passed on and ‘Willed’ the property to DADS, Inc.
During the past year, we have been involved with the re-building of the Jonesport Solar Home (Downeast Solar Center), as well as the SEADS Solar Seminar Center, in Columbia, Maine where we’re developing a Solar Community Land-trust.
