Community in action! 💪🏾✨

During our Feeding Tampa Bay Community Impact Day, we sorted over 6,249 pounds of food, helping contribute to 5,207 family meals across our community.

What made it even more special was the collaboration—current cohort members joined forces with TLI alumni and their families to serve side by side. Together, we’re making a tangible difference and strengthening the bonds that keep our mission moving forward. 🖤🤎❤️

Today's TOBA Leadership Institute [TLI] Spotlight is on TLI 2025 Graduate, Otis Kitchen. He was recently selected as an honoree for Masjid An Nasr’s 8th Annual Black History Charity Gala in Tampa, recognizing his work and impact in the community with this year’s theme focused on honoring Black educators. In his role as an elementary school principal, he continues leading school improvement efforts while building partnerships that support students, families, and amplify opportunities for the community.

When asked about his experience with TOBA, Otis said "I left with a stronger commitment to take what I learned back to my profession and passion and to keep creating pathways that uplift my community."

Today’s TLI walking tour was one to remember! ✨ We had an incredible time exploring the rich history of Tampa while deepening our understanding of the city’s Black heritage.

A special thank you to historian Fred Hearns for sharing powerful stories and insights that brought Tampa’s past to life. We walked away inspired, informed, and even more connected to the community we serve. 🖤

Leadership begins with intention — and grows through collaboration.

Session 1 of the TOBA Leadership Institute laid the foundation for a transformative leadership journey centered on collective impact, authentic community engagement, and the celebration of Black excellence.

Throughout the session, participants explored:
🔹 The Power of Collaboration – Understanding that effective leadership is built on shared vision, accountability, and strategic partnership.
🔹 Community Partnerships & Engagement – Recognizing that sustainable progress requires trust, intentional relationships, and responsiveness to community needs.
🔹 Celebrating Black Legacy & Excellence – Honoring the history, leadership, and contributions that continue to shape and strengthen our communities.

The TOBA Leadership Institute is committed to cultivating leaders who serve with integrity, purpose, and impact. As we continue this journey, we remain focused on developing leaders who not only lead — but uplift, empower, and advance community progress.

Strong leadership is collective. Strong leadership is intentional. Strong leadership strengthens community.

Sessions have officially begun for those selected for TOBAs 2026 Leadership Institute.

As Black History Month concludes, we remain committed to our mission: preparing and elevating leaders who strengthen Black communities through Political Action, Innovation, Community & Economic Development.

Twenty accomplished Black professionals have begun an eight-session leadership journey designed to cultivate strategic thinking, civic engagement, and sustainable community impact. We are grateful to Tony Rokita and team for allowing us to host the TLI 2026 opening session at The Florida Aquarium and for helping us set the tone for meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” Leadership rooted in service is the foundation of lasting change.
