The Coalition for Home Repair strongly supports the inclusion of the Whole-Home Repairs Act in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and urges swift passage of the full package.

Across the country, millions of households, especially older adults, veterans, and low-income families, are living in homes that are unsafe, unhealthy, or in critical need of repair. The Whole-Home Repairs Act represents a vital investment in preserving existing housing, stabilizing communities, and ensuring that people can remain safely in the homes they love.

Home repair is one of the most cost-effective and immediate solutions to our nation’s housing challenges. By addressing critical repairs, improving accessibility, and increasing energy efficiency, this legislation helps prevent displacement, reduces long-term public costs, and strengthens local economies.

We are encouraged to see this important provision included in the Senate-passed bill. However, we are deeply concerned that it may be at risk during the conference process. We urge House leadership to pass the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act without conference and deliver this critical investment to communities without delay.

The Coalition for Home Repair stands alongside our partners, members, and supporters in calling on Congress to act swiftly.

Together, we can ensure safe, healthy housing for all.

May is Older Americans Month — and here in Madison County, NC, honoring our older residents means supporting their ability to age safely and comfortably in the homes they love.

At the Community Housing Coalition (CHC), we’re proud to serve the growing number of older adults in our community. In Madison County, nearly 25% of the population is aged 65 or older, a figure well above the national average. Many of these residents have lived on their land for decades, and for some, their homes are part of a multi-generational legacy.

CHC helps ensure that aging in place is a viable and dignified option by providing critical home repairs that improve safety, accessibility, and health. In 2024 alone, we supported over 80 older adult residents, with repair services that preserve not only their independence but also generational wealth.

Your support — whether through donations or volunteer time — helps us continue this essential work. This Older Americans Month, join us in keeping Madison County's older neighbors safe, secure, and at home.

Support CHC. Support aging in place. Support community.

It's more important than ever to advocate for housing equity.

As critical federal funding faces the threat of cuts and elimination, it puts many people with low income at risk of losing important programs connected to housing, food, childcare, and healthcare. These programs are not luxuries but essential to help households survive and bridge the equity gap to thrive.

Throughout Black History Month, our team will be sharing resources to help you communicate the impact of home repair through a lens of housing equity.

The Housing Equity Digital Toolkit is now available to members and other housing advocates. Read the full press release in the linked article.

The Housing Equity Toolkit serves as a hub for reports, case studies, articles, and fast facts to equip and empower housing advocates to drive policy change and promote housing equity at local, state, or federal levels.
